This looks amazing! I'd do it myself if I could, but other nature / art / data vis nerds should definitely take a look.
Friends! Can I ask you a favour? My 🐦 + 📊 course starts next week. I'm super excited but registration is worryingly low. Can you share this with your weirdo nature + art + code friends? jerthorp.me/learning

I'm looking forward to starting @naomiaklein.bsky.social and @astra.bsky.social's new book, End Times Fascism.
What are you reading this weekend?
I received a panicked message from a family member this week asking if "AI" will really cause the extinction of the human race. I did my best to dispel these fears in simple terms, but my anger at the industry leaked through. Perhaps I should have sent them this very accessible article instead.
It seems like the AI discourse has started to actually scare people this past week (at least five people have told me 'AI will kill us', so well done PR folks.) I think this is a very good piece to share w/ your family & friends. Thanks @shannonvallor.bsky.social www.noemamag.com/the-danger-o...
Really important to understand that AI has not become *more* AI, *real* AI, or *good* AI since the late 70s. It's still a parlour trick. The parlour has just got a lot bigger and the trick a lot more tricksy.
Was doing some research and... wow... 1978.
Notice how those “apolitical” people ALWAYS end up siding with the oppressors

This is a great thread that highlights what we need to do about "AI".
I really want people to think more like organizers. I'm seeing endless debate, and more than a little conspiracy theorizing, about the motivations behind the big companies' warnings about the danger of AI. And almost no discussion about how we seize this moment to demand the policies we want.
Since it can be hard to believe that political and corporate elites would actively give up on our shared future on this singular planet, we made a short film so folks can hear from the end timers and judge for themselves. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

It costs roughly £200K to show an ad to every adult in the UK on Insta, Facebook, X & Google. With £72m in crypto donations, Reform now has enough money to repeat this every week until 2029. Dodgy ads already shaped Brexit, we can't afford to let it happen again. We need to scale up our fight.

Very much this. Holding space for refusal of this tech is a key resistance strategy. That means advocating for that option in e.g. school policies (if we can't get a full ban) but also simply being visible in our own refusal, so that others see it as possible.
Please be vocal about not using AI. We have to normalize it. No "I'm not going to say that because it should be assumed. I'm not going to give them this". We don't have time for that shit ideological shit right now. NOW is the time to capitalize on waning favorability. Ppl want human made

Happy International Worker's Day everyone. Let's all smash the machinery hurtful to commonality together.
This was a really great read. Highly recommended! gbbns.co/journal/acce... The EAA has made it difficult to ignore #a11y issues. But the fix hasn't been what it needs to be. The solution is treating frontend as a speciality again. AI still can't replace human knowledge, and can break things faster.
The Accessibility Problem Isn't Design. It's Engineering. | gbbns.co
Accessibility failures aren't design oversights — they're engineering failures. The full-stack hiring trend, AI-generated code with no context, and a compliance-first mentality have combined to create a crisis hiding in plain sight. Here's what's actually going wrong, and what fixing it actually looks like.
