Motherhood be like.. “Mom, what’s the gender of Nutella?” “🤨 What now?” “Das, das Nutella.” “Are you sure it’s not die Nutella?” “Kid, I don’t know. Nutella is rubbish. How about “der Brotaufstrich! Alles fällt unter Brotaufstrich.” The joys of bilingual parenting 🤣

People visiting the island and getting their caffein fix from Starbucks has always baffled me, because we really have so many super cute cafés that brew actual good coffee. Don’t know why I am bringing this up, probably because I had a conversation about the mermaid’s coffee with a friend today.

View over the counter of a coffee shop in Honolulu. Plants in the right corner of the image. Feel aloha is some small writing on the floor. Jewelry from a local artist sits on the counter for display. Art pieces on a small coffee table in the left back of the image.

I am today years old when I learned about “free-range” parenting. I just called it parenting and now I am bummed I hadn’t thought about making money of it by calling it to be a trend on the socials. But also, this mom didn’t have time for the socials when them young folks were tiny.

I think I gotta sign off from participating in the world for a bit. People are in a mood, which really is weird for the islands. It’s been a funky energy this week, though perhaps it’s just me. Mayhaps I am the problem.
