Pallasites are so often shown cut and polished - still beautiful in their raw form though. 😍🧪⚒️
Pallasite: One of the most significant meteorites in this Museum's collection is a 1.7kg mass of the Krasnojarsk meteorite which was found in 1772. Found in Krasnojarsk, Russia, the meteorite is composed of glassy green olivine crystals embedded in Fe-Ni alloy. Unique oumnh.ox.ac.uk/learn-meteor...

A year or two ago, an AI-boosting petro-bro—a geologist if memory serves—suggested on a different platform that the entire USGS core facility should be shuttered because anything of value had been digitized and maintaining physical samples was a waste of money. He couldn't have been more wrong! ⚒️
I cannot emphasize enough of the importance of this point: the physical archive is not a digital file. And crucially, it CANNOT be a digital file. Doing research with physical samples from ecological collections requires physically analyzing them. You can't just take photos and call it a day.

Earth’s Heterogeneous Mantle: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Deep Earth Dynamics and Planetary Evolution
Earth's mantle is far from a uniform reservoir; it is a complex archive of our planet's formation, differentiation, and long-term evolution. From the lithosphere down to the core-mantle boundary, mant...

Fascinating. Shout out to the spirit of Stuart Boyd (with the equal oldest citation from this paper) who was a pioneer investigating nitrogen in high temp rocks and the solid Earth. ⚒️🧪🌋🌍
🤯 Nitrogen levels in *granites* reveal strong burial of organic matter in the proterozoic eon, in line with oxygen rise. The nitrogen in the granites originated from organic matter in the sediments that melted to form the granites. ⚒️🧪 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Higher education needs to earn back the trust of white working class families
The independent inquiry into white working class educational outcomes found a lack of trust in higher education, not in aspiration. Anne-Marie Canning explains
