As part of boot camp, Alpha School students apparently have their heart rates monitored as they watch recorded videos of their parents critiquing them. This activity takes place in front of their classmates, and students must keep their heart rates within 10 percent of their baseline to pass.

we used to think chickenpox was “mild” if you got it as a kid (vs as an adult). now we’re learning that letting the chickenpox virus into your body lets it contribute to dementia decades later. you can’t just look at the short term. be safe, not sorry.

also, in addition to having ME/CFS due to viral infections, i have personal experience with chickenpox reactivating, as ramsay-hunt syndrome.

i had to tape my eyelid closed for quite some time afterwards because i couldn’t blink on that side. couldn’t smile or eat certain foods properly because only half my mouth worked for months. vertigo and nausea for a month. had to withdraw from that semester of college. unnecessary sickness: bad!!

i wish more non-chronically ill people realized that there are more possible outcomes from infection than the simple binary of “recovering completely” and “dying.” there are *many* ways post-viral illnesses and other complications can make us suffer without dying immediately.

Manners, Willis, Courtney place and Cuba st are all so important to the vibe and heart of Wellington city. For a counsel to ignore 5+ years of planning/consultation to redevelop the golden mile because it will “cost too much” is dumb and short sighted. It’s not a vanity project it was the future.

This is the most fucked up and immediately harmful policy decision I think I've ever seen in adult trans healthcare in the UK, and that's saying something. The Welsh Gender Service is one of the best in the country. It is widely praised by the patients it helps. That is why it is being targeted.
