Next weekend Josh and I will be giving a demo of Xerox systems at VCF West - every generation of computer hardware they sold form the Alto, to the Dorado, the Dolphin, Dandelion, and Daybreak. A rare chance to see the whole lineage in one place - working!

Here's the laser path on a 1981 Xerox 8040 Electronic Printer - the one sold with the Star office system. Note the helium neon laser - a modulator bends the beam. That's why there appear to be 2 beams in the photo. Light strikes the spinning polygon mirror causing it to scan.

Watching Adrian begin to scope the amount of work he's got going on that Lisa's I/O board reminds me of the job I had to do a few years back where it was easier to just strip that corner of the board, remove the failing masking and replace traces and sockets as per the schematic.

Today is a very sad day for the Apple community Bill Atkinson has died at the age of 74 😢 He was Apple employee number 51 & the principal designer & developer of the Lisa GUI. He was also among the first 30 members of the original Apple Macintosh development team. He was a true programing legend.🫡

Bill Atkinson was one of the most brilliant, imaginative, and compelling people I ever had the privilege to work with. His vision touched every device you use today. And his heart, his open love and humanity, exceeded all of that.
