The people voted almost 50 years ago to widen the Seanad electorate - and only 13 years ago to save it from extinction. But now that the electorate HAS been widened, only 9% of potential voters have signed up. That says many things - including that the upper house is out of favour again.

The biggest reform to Seanad elections in a generation has opened the university panels to graduates from more than 80 institutions. So far, it’s not gone to plan when it comes to the numbers.

A campaign for *MSF* to be banned as a terrorist group (on the paper thin basis of claims about 2 past employees) is the product of the UK Govt being willing to divorce any meaningful conception of societal threat from its use of proscription powers. Govt needs to wake up to the madness of this:

Only 71,850 people have registered to vote in the new Higher Education constituency for the Seanad, despite a potential electorate of between 800,000 and 1,000,000 graduates. The unified 6-seater is open to graduates of over 80 higher level institutions, not just the historic TCD and NUI.

Dublin Airport has advised passengers that some flights in and out of the airport are subject to delays as a knock-on impact of air traffic control issues in the UK. The worst affected airports are Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham, according to Flightradar24. jrnl.ie/7156195

One of the issues of signing letters for cases relating to ‘academic freedom’ that you don’t have direct knowledge or connection to is that it prompts not unreasonable questions regarding the cases you have chosen to remain silent on. Why do certain cases matter more than others?

Leaders of flag-raising group Raise the Colours Oxfordshire placed trackers on highway workers’ cars to find out their home addresses, the High Court has heard. RTC then attempted to intimidate the highway staff into no longer removing flags by repeating their addresses to them.

Is this an inflection point for unionism? Only the second time since the DUP overtook the UUP in 2003 that a poll has put the Ulster Unionists ahead (the other being amid the DUP's leadership chaos in 2021). Also very bad for Alliance - now clearly behind Claire Hanna's SDLP.
