Great to see my @commenergyengland.bsky.social colleague @coppicejt.bsky.social in action at this #WaveneyValley #Sustainable Communities Conference led by MP @adrianramsay.bsky.social and supported by @rupertread.bsky.social et al .

The afternoon focused on #CommunityEnergy. An interesting panel discussion. For me, community energy is a key that can unlock so many doors to resilience. There are some great things happening, community led projects owned by local shareholders. But many policy and systemic barriers remain.

Panel discussion on community energy with six speakers seated at a table. A large screen behind them displays their names and titles, set against a backdrop of a cartoon sun and solar panel, conveying a theme of sustainability.

Panel Two
COMMUNITY ENERGY

· Emma Fletcher - Director of Low Carbon Homes, Octopus Energy
· Livvy Hanks - General Manager, Our Power
· Joolz Thompson - Director, The Great Collaboration. Co-founder, Community Climate Action.
· Bethany Murrell - Climate Change Project Officer, Babergh and Mid Suffolk Council
· John Taylor - Head of Capacity Building and Strategic Development, Community Energy England

Community energy allows local people to produce, consume and own energy where they live, together. It is incredibly positive to see community energy continue to feature so prominently in the delivery of the Clean Power Mission.

🚨 BREAKING: Communities run through the just-announced Strategic Priorities for Great British Energy. This Government is delivering on its commitment to roll out clean, green, community-owned energy. 🌱

Two energy projects with a divine connection this week, Croydon Community Energy install 96kW of solar on Archbishop Tenison's school. And the CofE unveil a rooftop solar and air source heat pump upgrade to Lambeth Palace, office of the Archbishop of Canterbury!

How exciting!!! 96.3kWp of solar has started going up at Archbishop Tenison’s school today, thanks to our community investors! ☀️ This will reduce the bills and carbon of the school, as well as teach the students about renewable energy. Watch this space for more updates 🎉

The leaders of Community Energy Wales, Scotland and England met Minister Michael Shanks, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero) in London today to press for improved conditions to enable community energy to thrive. Our arguments were well received.

There's some real energy in Parliament by this week⚡️   The Government recommitted through the GB Energy Bill to put power in the hands of communities, producing up to 8GW of green, clean, community-owned energy.

100%. Trump getting elected didn't change the physics of the planet's atmosphere, nor the UK's geography of heavily depleted north sea oil and gas reserves and an abundance of renewable energy potential. Delivering climate action that benefits us all is how the UK will prosper.

Where are the MPs, columnists, and business leaders explaining climate change threats are real, gas is the primary cause of high energy bills, net zero brings multiple benefits, and the UK is not an outlier on climate policy? Ed Miliband can’t do it all on his own.

Our membership network is buzzing with exciting investment opportunities, including one via @ethexuk.bsky.social for Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy. They want to raise £500,000 and they’re already closing in on £350,000! 🚀 Can you help them reach their target? 💚 youtu.be/wp94O_T6ze0

Fun being invited on BBC Radio 5 Live this evening to discuss the news that Govt are considering grants/cheap loans to enable more people to install solar. It's welcome as a move to democratise energy; I'd be keen to see it part of a wider policy to involve insulation /heat decarbonisation though.

Love this image of the Bro Dyfi Community Renewables site. This was the first community owned wind turbine in the UK, and they've now added 300kW of Solar PV to the site. Every town and village in the country should replicate this combo.

A wind turbine stand next several rows of ground mounted solar panels, on a green grassy hilltop in Wales with hilly peaks in the background and a clear blue sky.

Today the Company will depart. Bilbo gives Frodo his sword Sting and—secretly—his magnificent Dwarvish mail-coat of pure mithril. The old hobbit sings softly. ‘I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see…’

Great to get down to Bristol tonight for Community Energy England awards. It was lovely for the @coopparty.bsky.social to be recognised for our work in promoting community energy. It is an important area of our work and it’s great now to have such a supportive Westminster Government - 🐝🐝

How much wind and solar do you need to power the average UK all electric net zero lifestyle? 🌍⚡ 2500kWh 10k miles of driving 2000kWh home use 4500kWh home heating 9000kWh total 3kW solar PV = 3000 kWh 2.6kW share of a wind turbine = 6000 kWh Around £5,600 worth of kit.

Hello! Late to the party as always, but relieved to be here. In other news, what about chatgpt eh!? Looking forward to enjoying social media again. Little pic from the dog walk before we get in the serious stuff.
