Demographer, Professor #academic #rstats https://coreysparks.github.io/appdem_Book/

I’m recruiting a PhD student to come work with me at UT San Antonio. I have 3 years of support, so this would be good for someone with a masters degree. If you’re interested in working on Bayesian methods in demographic research, spatial analysis, and using AI tools for social science research

I am extremely excited that I will be rejoining The University of Texas at San Antonio beginning this fall as full professor in the Department of Sociology and Demography. Working in the private sector, and in nonprofits have given me a wealth of new perspectives to bring back to the academic world.

When reporters would ask me about "how will the public see the effects of DOGE?" my answer was pretty unsatisfying. 1. Performance declines in orgs that deliver direct and measurable services (e.g. IRS, VA, SSA) 2. Emergencies reveal lack of expertise when you need it. The Iran war is a #2 case.

6 months before bombing Iran and closing the Strait of Hormuz, the Trump admin fired the State Dept. oil and gas experts. The people who modeled exactly this scenario. The ones with contacts at Gulf energy ministries. Now nobody knows who to call. You can't make this up.

During trump 1.0, we had to pull down all of the climate change pages off the EPA website. Start archiving shit now, document, backup, photograph, whatever you need to do.
