Apple charges people ~20% more than the Patreon list price and they keep the difference for themselves. They also hold the proceeds of iOS app sales for 75 days, making it impossible for creators to accurately predict earnings. They basically inserted themselves in order to rip *more* people off

could it be? have I broken my near 25-year silence on the subject of Warren Zevon? have I wrote about the dread Hindu Love Gods?? and R.E.M.’s magisterial “Man in the Moon”??? it’s my most personal writing in many years, plus the new chapter of Holcomb, on dragon hunting - so come get some:

My parents came of age to the sounds of Warren Zevon. The Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel was a real place - that's the hotel Zevon was staying at when he wrote "Desperadoes Under the Eaves." My mom told me what Gower Ave was, and that she had indeed sat in the lobby of the hotel and looked down Gower Ave. That same thing, right there, was a part of my parents' history, their life largely before they met each other, and long before I was in the picture.Hindu Love Gods should be a trifle, by rights, and I suspect most fans view it as such. But it's not. I'd actually locate it close to dead center in significance for both Zevon and R.E.M. Not just two ships passing in the night, no. Zevon knew R.E.M. from the very beginning - actual acquaintances from way back. Three-quarters of R.E.M. played backup on Sentimental Hygiene - that would be Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Bill Berry - and Hindu Love Gods was recorded over the course of a night in early 1987. Right before they convened to record Green. Whatever Stipe was up to, the rest of the gang got up to the business of playing some rock music on their day off.If you need to form a picture in your head of the kind of person my mother was, she never forgave R.E.M. for writing “Shiny Happy People." It sounds like a joke, but she really hated that song. Like a burr under her saddle. Her favorite R.E.M., until the day she died, was Fables of the Reconstruction. That was the pinnacle. Both my parents favored the IRS era, truth be told - we were possessive about the group, and dad never quite got over the luck of discovering them on their first television appearance. Those albums were a part of my family.Work was towards the primary occupation, dragon hunting - or, let us be completely frank, scavenging the corpses of dragons killed by anything else but us. Us being a wooden sailing ship adrift on a very large ocean dominated by an extraordinarily large alpha predator. The dragons considered us non-combatants. Given that it is a habit of dragons to regularly eat one another - in a way that would otherwise be frowned on among most other races of similar erudition - they were quite unsentimental regarding the disposition of the carcasses of their departed. They could be genial conversationalists, wise, not without wit, and well-versed even in events beyond their world. But they also fight and kill one another, frequently, and consider themselves entitled to eating the flesh of their vanquished. For no reason other than it was what dragons on the whole preferred to spend most of their time doing.

I’m on chapter 16 of Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and I have NO MAGES. One guy died in his first turn of the game, reminding me that this has permadeath, and I have found no others. I thought I’d be drowning in them given all the spells and items
