My IMAP (Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe) mission has just released its first set of public data: imap.princeton.edu/news/imap-re... We launched on 24 Sep 2025 and were on station at the Sun-Earth L1 point on 1 Feb 2026. I'm Deputy PI and the lead for the HIT instrument.⚛️🧪

IMAP Releases First Set of Science Data

NASA’s Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe released its first set of science data today, July 29, 2026. After its successful launch on September 24, 2025, and arrival at L1, IMAP’s prime missi...

#astronomie #eclipse

The sun, masked artificially by software, showing its hot corona (corona E) using an SHG 700On the left, the corona as seen by the SDO satellite. On the right, a capture from the ground.

Earlier today, the discarded upper stage of a Falcon 9 rocket impacted on the Moon. As part of a coordinated observing campaign, our Very Large Telescope detected spectral lines of sodium and lithium gas in the impact plume lasting for 5-10 minutes after impact. 🔭 🧪 📷 ESO/C. Schmidt et al. 1/4

"Well you can't win them all on astronomy events" Heroic efforts by all the live-streamers on YT! Sad that there was nothing visible to see, but here's hoping @eso.org detected something. We wait with excitement for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter images of the moon's new crater! 🔭

"Will I be able to see the crash?" Probably not, but that doesn't mean friends in the Americas shouldn't try (daylight for those in Europe): look to the eastern limb of the Einstein crater. The @eso.org VLT will observe it & NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter is taking before and after images! 🔭🧪🛰️

Bill Gray's latest orbit estimate for the Falcon 9 rocket stage (F9-427, 62719) lunar approach shifts the impact a bit northwest, further round the limb to 93W 20N, at 0635UTC Wednesday, so will be harder to see from Earth than previously thought

In July, Bochum transmitted by far the most data from STEREO-A’s Space Weather Beacon to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Centre (SWPC). We have been doing this 24/7 since 2009.

The Fauci hearing was not about COVID, it was about scaring scientists. Rand Paul, avid science-denier, followed the pattern of the Trump admin's latest attempts to quiet people who disagree with them. 🧵
