I know it's Hot Reddit Takes and I shouldn't take them personally, but getting my 7 y/o to go to bed has been an issue lately and seeing a bunch of people just going "You need to show AUTHORITY not be their friend!!!" and circlejerking to that sentiment is... frustrating to say the least.

I’m kinda proud of myself. I’ve watched two TV shows over the last like two weeks which is almost unheard of for me. Granted I started Midnight Mass when I had COVID and was loopy as fuck two years ago and didn’t finish it until last week (or the week before) but I watched Widows Bay this week

also - as I have said before and will say again - the problem with AI isn't that there's zero positive, helpful uses to which it can be put; it's that none of them, whether singly or collectively, comes remotely close to justifying the dystopian shitshow that goes into making and selling the tech

"A bunch of people would rather post on Race War Now Dot Swastika rather than Bluesky because you keep making fun of their imaginary computer friend" is a RESOUNDING endorsement for the concept of hostility.

Part of a thread from some bluecheck:
Multiple people I know have told me that they love the idea of Bluesky, and want it to succeed, but have abandoned it for X because the use agentic tools in their work and find them incredibly useful, and feel that any mention of their usage here leads to hate and ridicule.

I wouldn't bring this up if it was just one person, but it was multiple people since the beginning of August who mentioned in passing something to the effect of either "I'd spend more time on Bluesky if people weren't so anti-AI" *or* "As much as I hate to be there all the useful AI talk is on X."

I'm not saying it's anyone's responsibility to praise AI usage. I agree with much of the criticism of the tool. But for many, many people, it is a useful tech (I have talked about the ways I find it extraordinarily useful, only to have people here mock me, insisting my lived experience is a lie).

I am just noting that for all the people here who say that people should get off X and spend more time here, the reason I keep hearing from people in various circles who would *like* to do that, but don't, is the vociferous belief of many here that there are no possible positive uses of AI.

I want to say that even though she's a minor NPC in the last few patches with scant real characterization, I adore Shale. Honestly I think she's the first NPC we've interacted with in FF14 where I go, "Yeah I think Sig would be crushing on her."

You ever just be sitting there and out of nowhere a sheer wave of anxiety washes over you for no reason? Like the pit of your stomach just drops out and your heart begins racing and you feel slightly short of breath? ... Yeah totally me neither.

Still feeling shitty about work stuff. Budget isnt approved yet which has tied up my promotion and pay raise, which I don’t even know what the new pay bands are until finance gets it together. My coworkers make literally double my salary as seniors, I’d be a Junior. I’d like to meet in the middle.

Having a frustrating work day. I feel like I'm "Mr. Negative" on our team who always is pushing for things to be done in the security space to fix problems that I see. Feels like sometimes I frustrate my boss because of it, when I am just trying to make our environment more secure. I'm tired.

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is. GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart. But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

Boromir from THE LORD OF THE RINGS, holding The One Ring. He thought he could use it for good, but everything done with the ring turns to evil. He was one of the mightiest warriors of middle earth, and he could not resist its powers. Others even mightier fell to the ring. Do you think you are stronger than them? The One Ring is generative AI.

In therapy today: Therapist: You've been pretty overwhelmed and underwater for a while now. Me: I've been overwhelmed and underwater since 2020. I've also been extremely depressed for a week now. I'm fucking tired, ya'll. The rest of my year is only going to get worse, too. Not sure how to do it.

Excited to get back my two commissions because I'm definitely going to turn one of them into my new avatar places. Not that I don't love The Woop, but I wish I could be no thoughts head empty right now and I really can't.

I applaud Abdul for taking the high ground and always turning the question about Israel back to his stances on local policies, but it's really frustrating to see the media trying to get a gotcha soundbyte by asking him 10 questions about Israel and nothing else.

So I take K to a place called Stemville which is a science learning place that he loves. Today they were doing hidden golden tickets and he found two — got a free one month membership and a learn to code robot toy which is AWESOME. This place is amazing and I’m so glad he likes it here.

After many, many years I finally beat Sekiro. Damn that was a good game. Kinda wonder how we never got a sequel after the True Ending (Return) set up a hook for one. Maybe one day...

I'm in a weird spot where I want to raid in WoW to be social with my awesome guild, but at the same time WoW just isn't doing it for me. Not thrilled with the story, feel like they're dragging it out just to get 3 xpacs out of it. In other news, I finally got past The Wall in Sekiro. Endgame time.

Watching the primary results as they come in, but then getting notifications about the fucking SCREEN act and all I can do is silently scream because I don't know how much more of this I can take and it's only 2026.
