The govt has fired *all* the immigration attorneys representing detained children and given a $150 million contract to a 26-employee MAGA law firm in Texas with ONE immigration attorney. @theyoungcenter.bsky.social's Child Advocates are now the last line of defense for kids in deportation hearings.
26-employee Texas law firm gets $150M to represent 24,000 children in immigration court
None of the Burke Law Group’s lawyers list immigration law as an area of expertise, per the firm’s website.

I need to go to bed, I barely even know what's going on in Michigan but I'm a Big Board junkie. 😭
This thread takes an interesting twist without context. I almost don't wanna ruin that innocence....
I needed to buy sunglasses and I got stupid cheap frames so I paid $25 extra to get purple mirror lenses, I basically feel like I'm throwing around yacht level money with this extravagance but I'm really excited.
every minute of every hour of every day (I'm currently 3d printing vinyl siding clips because I decided I need to hang up LED twinkle lights all along the side of my house)
Me: Alright I've got to stay focused let's stay on these projects. *two hours later* "Okay so now if I wanted to make my own icons I need to get these color pallet such that it is distinguishable at a distance." Is this what @mostlybree.kitrocha.com feels like?
I've fallen to the siren call of the Kornacki Cam again
NEW: Voters have rejected Republicans' scheme to unseat the Kansas Supreme Court's Dem-appointed majority and overturn abortion rights. Amendment 1 would have let the GOP replace the system of a nominating commission, gubernatorial appointment, and retention elections with direct partisan elections
NEW: Missouri voters have rejected Amendment 4, which Republicans had passed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments effectively impossible. It would have required initiatives to pass in every congressional district—not just statewide—giving the overwhelmingly red districts a veto
Yesterday I made my mother fresh bagels and today I'm making Lacey's pizza dough and turning it into pizza and the faux ciabatta, I'm really spoiling her with bread. LOL
I'm just gonna say: it somewhat baffles me that people who are understandably skeptical of opaque LLMs as legitimate sources of information will suddenly go full on "the computer KNOWS" when they are using opaque tools to "detect" AI. The computer does not know.
❤️ Gillian Green, publisher at Tor Bramble, told The Bookseller: “HM Wolfe has confirmed that Daggermouth was written entirely without AI. We stand behind our author, and we do not recognise third-party AI detection tools as a fair or reliable measure of authenticity when used on their own.”
Romancelandia is a fractious community with more grudges and feuds than most people could dream. And during @romancingthevote.com everyone sort of agrees to put down the weapons and do This Thing together for a greater cause, because community is bigger than who we want to hang out with.
Very nervous about tomorrow’s blog on Patreon so have some out of context quotes from it as a treat 💜
the cranky xennnial nerd demographic is over-represented on bluesky lol
Somehow have curated a timeline where when a mutual posts “MTG,” it’s equally probable that they’re referring to Marjorie Taylor Greene or Magic: The Gathering.
I don't know how to feel about the fact that YouTube has decided to just keep feeding me "are we living inside a black hole????" videos.
inside me are two demons: the one who wants to be funny and the one who won't do anything that someone clearly wants me to do lolol
Bree has a great point here. the detach quote feature is amazing. and the funniest thing to do in response to this QT would be to detach it
while there are problems with anything, the nuclear block is absolutely my second favorite thing that bluesky did. (my first favorite is detach quote, which is another thing that wrecks the way they like to use social media)
there are definitely downsides to the nuclear block but the reason I keep coming back to it as necessary and good is that it completely ruined the whole MAGA engagement model to the point that they prefer to mock us from the nazi bar rather than come here to troll us directly
Add me to the list of people whose inflammatory issues were sent into overdrive by covid. I think there are a LOT OF US, and the more they attack covid vaccines & cautionary measures, the more folks are rolling the dice on the horrifying long covid complications that almost killed me.
Inflammatory disorders can be brutal. I’d know personally (thanks vasculitis et al). But the misinformation, including on vaccines, is dangerous. A deep dive from me into how MAHA sped up the inflammation panic. New from me at @motherjones.com www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Super useful. I figure a lot of us here in the Sky know this stuff already, but it might be handy to hand to parents, grandparents and pals who are less technically minded. www.librarian.net/NoToAI/

Alabama teachers got like 2 months at home and were sent back to school in fall 2020 and the reason I almost died (and actually had to get okay with probably dying) was because it was incredibly hard to mitigate the risks of being married to a teacher while I had a vulnerable immune system.
When pressed on how to keep schools open, Nate Silver suggested hazard pay but couldn't seem to figure out what happens when you run out of people who are willing to get sick and possibly die at work. So much punditry really boils down to a guy going "oh no not like that."
pay-per-view with the proceeds refunding SNAP is my vote, and then reruns on C-SPAN
Is C-SPAN too obscure?
I have zero opinions about who should be the 2028 nominee at this point (you have to finish your 2026 midterm before you can have dessert) but I am all for normalizing the idea that the fight needs to be about how many seats we're adding to SCOTUS and what channel we air the corruption trials on
whatever you think of harris's chances of regaining the nomination man this is a deeply welcome early stake to see claimed in the 2028 primary positioning
"“We need to revisit the point of expanding the court to 13 justices like we have 13 district courts,” Harris said at the National Urban League’s annual conference...also calling for a review of the Electoral College and statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, DC." www.cnn.com/2026/07/31/p...
Today in "Mo is using the Battlestar Galactica book to Yell About Some Stuff," an excerpt from the work in progress below. Am I still fucking annoyed at how annoying some people were in the Watcher comment sections during BSG's final season? No idea what you're talking about, hmm, will ponder:
Hey, friends! I put my big face in a video like the kids do! Time to join the @aimoratoriumnyc.bsky.social and tell @mayor.nyc.gov to enact a moratorium on "A.i." in the schools! Please share - and please tell the mayor you want a moratorium! www.nyc.gov/mayors-offic...
it was the first thing I saw when looking up this movie and I posted a screencap into the group chat with "every step leads to more questions"
