Last month, the Trump admin added fuel to the fire, issuing letters to Columbia & Harvard demanding campus #maskbans. Columbia capitulated, continuing their disastrous strategy of attacking #Palestine solidarity mvmts at the expense of everyone’s health & privacy www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Caving to Trump's demands, Columbia University says it will ban mask-wearing

Enforcing such an order while allowing exceptions for health can be a dicey matter.

It’s no secret that universities have cracked down on student speech, sacrificing campus safety & fundamental rights to quash protest against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. In response to April 2024 encampments, a renewed tactic of suppression emerged: the campus mask ban www.aclu.org/news/privacy...

In today’s world of constant surveillance, people protesting should have the right to wear a mask

Important: When calling government officials about mask bans, specify "any law that would criminalize masking, whether as an enhancement or a ban." (Many lawmakers don't consider current versions "bans" despite restricting mask use.) (3/4)

We’ll say it again: Criminalizing masks does not make New Yorkers safer. In reality, it puts our health at risk, opens the floodgates for racist enforcement, threatens to exile some people with disabilities from society, and undermines protections for protestors.

NEW: New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul is reviving her push to ban masks and is urging New York State lawmakers to include a mask ban in the upcoming state budget. This move endangers public health and threatens civil liberties.

Recently I went to the state capital to testify against a mask ban bill in Maryland. As we await updates, I hope this is educational to hear if you’re new to the topic or encourages you to speak out in the future. It's not over until it's over everywhere. Nobody is free until all of us are free.
