Honestly, the Gen 1 Recomp stuff looks like poop from a butt from the get-go anyway. The 3D stuff doesn’t seek to enhance or preserve the art direction, it just changes it with zero consideration because it seems fancier. It using AI code is just extra reasons to dunk on an already bad conversion.

Pokopia prediction (I haven’t seen any leaks, don’t worry): The 2nd town in the DLC that hasn’t been revealed yet will be a snowy biome and it’ll be based on Mt Silver since it’s right on the border of Kanto.

Haven’t really played Pokopia since the launch period so now I have to re-learn the controls and try to remember where everything is 😅

I want y'all to exercise some caution when it comes to a lot of these "recomps" of games coming out lately, cause all of them are just... very lazy ai ports, if you can even call it that. One tip is to go to the github page (which pretty much all of them have), and see if Claude is a contributor.

The sheer scale of Xenoblade Chronicles is already huge on Switch but it becomes black magic when you remember that these areas were originally on the Wii.

It’s not as cozy & I’m not adding it to any multi-hunts but until I can get a DSi XL with screens I’m happy with, I guess I can do my casuals runs on a nice OLED at least!

It's so annoying that my green DSi XL screens are so yellow'd because outside of that, the colour temps and brightness are perfect and I fear sending it in for repair will result in worse screens 😭

It's annoying that AI has taken over the space because recomp ports are so cool when they aren't made with techno-poison. I'd hate to see legitimate ports made with passion be swept under the rug along with the slop so I urge you to research if a port is poisoned if one catches your interest.

I hate saying this, but please be naturally skeptical of any "recomp" project you see. When an article comes out saying, *insert classic game here* is now playable on PC!!" assume it's vibe coded AI crap. Projects like that take an absurd amount of time/effort to be done well by actual programmers!!

Reminder: If you were remotely thinking of separating ModRetro from Palmer's arms dealing company, they made a special edition handheld where it being made from attack drone metal WAS THE SELLING POINT. They're not just tangentially connected by the owner, they're actively proud of that connection.

I booted up my old 2017 save from when I dabbled a bit and an area that made the game look so rough that I dropped the game now looks gorgeous even in handheld. The games biggest barrier for entry is now fixed on Switch 2. Can’t wait to start it again after I’m done with XC1:DE!

The chintzy-looking M64 clone console of the N64 by a company named ModRetro has been released, I think, I don't pay attention that closely to shit. But as the great @frankcifaldi.bsky.social posted before, it is our civic duty to push back against this company and shun ANYONE who doesn't.

I think a hurdle I'm coming across with shiny hunting videos is that I want mine to at least be different aesthetically, even if it just ends up being at a surface level. I *think* I'm getting there.

Honestly, going through Xenoblade Chronicles gradually over the course of a year+ and taking breaks has absolutely made the size of the game a non-issue. Would recommend if you find the scale of the game daunting.
