He says he doesn’t mind.

How true can that be, when it seems like everybody else cares about Felix’s mere existence—that they duck their heads and avert their eyes to avoid looking at a disabled veteran of war?

“They’re despicable. I need to strengthen ground rules about this.”

“And what would be the point of that? I hardly doubt it’d get them to stop. It’s too ingrained in them, and I’m hardly special with it. There is a reason why war heroes only stay in the spotlight so long as they can function with their remaining limbs.”
