The US-Iran MOU officially expires today (though it's been dead for weeks). Today was not only the date when ship traffic through Hormuz was supposed to be back to pre-war levels (the opposite happened)) they were supposed to have a nuclear deal too (why anyone believed that, I don't know).

I’ve made democratic backsliding a topic in multiple courses, with the US one of the most prominent examples (also Turkey, India, Hungary, etc.) I tell students the US in 2026 has competitive authoritarianism, mixed regime, or (referencing Orban) “illiberal democracy.” I do this because it’s true.

Gathering notes for teaching intro US Politics (for the first time) and it is in fact hard to see how you would describe the 2026 presidency as anything other than an elected dictator.

It’s a searing indictment of the media that the family business run by the US president had *hundreds* Of bank accounts closed by Capital One based on suspicions that they were involved in money laundering And-especially since Trump is a convicted felon-it barely registered as a story

The U.S. president frequently threatening to bomb various countries—adversaries, partners, whatever—is bad. The fact that they react with “sure, buddy, whatever” is bad. Throwing away international credibility to posture for a domestic audience and assuage the president’s feelings of inadequacy.

A person without any govt position, who has numerous financial conflicts of interest, should not conduct US foreign policy. And that’s before we get to the fact that he uses this role to corruptly solicit money for himself. It’s wrong. Many seem to have accepted it, but I’ll never stop objecting.

Kushner Meets With Hamas to Advance Trump’s Gaza Plan
