I'm curious to know if this goes beyond datacenters which give a name and visceral physical representation of big tech encroaching on our lives and politics? ie - clearly the datacenter pushback is sustainable on its own specific issues but is it also the flashpoint for a broader tech backlash?

I’ve been screening our documentary with organizing communities in the South. So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.

In addition to being a corporate dodge, this is really the biggest blow that could happen to a fundamental principle of crypto. The maximalist, airtight way to use crypto is self custody and a cold hardware wallet built on auditable open-source software. That just proved to be vulnerable as well.

Hacked Bitcoin Wallet Maker Warns AI Failed to Detect Bug Fine line between *warning* and *blaming* here. In either case, this is undercovered, IMO.

Due to a bitcoin cold wallet hack, cryptobros are having a huge fight over how scams and fraud are handled by credit/debit card issuers. They think refunds are optional and banks do it as a competitive customer service. Not one mention of the federal laws like EFTA and FCBA that require it.

Seems like this guy has a good case to make that using his government position to illegally make money with crypto is exactly what the leader of the executive branch expected of him in the first place.

There is "a" strain this stark but I think the (valid to point out) mainstream strain of this is more nuanced. But overall agree. Worth context that it's a reaction to Sunstein "nudge" theory that cost us huge advances in consumer protection we could have made under the Obama Administration.

there is a strain of lefty discourse where you can’t come to any unflattering conclusions about the populace—those must be explained away by how they are being acted upon by capital—but I think you’ll understand things better if you understand capital can also exploit weaknesses it didn’t create

Somehow I managed to underestimate how incredibly unpopular crypto is. After just a couple years they outrank oil companies, Wall Street and data centers. The Senate is only considering a crypto gift package for campaign money. Crypto remains the corruption GOAT. www.semafor.com/article/07/3...

Exclusive: Democrats circulate anti-crypto poll ahead of vote

The poll found that voters in Democratic primaries view crypto less favorably than oil companies; Wall Street; or data centers.

The part that Coinbase lost on here, though nominally small, is very consequential & seems to parallel Torres/Ripple. No wonder Coinbase is going to "vigorously defend" the .03% tokens Coinbase sold to customers. They're securities. www.reuters.com/business/coi...

This debate is important it helps us hash out ideas and focus efforts. This debate is academic and stakes are not - we should act as if massive crisis regardless. This is one financial threat among many concurrent threats. No matter who's *right*, it's happening and will be extremely consequential.

Anybody here do constitutional law and can explain to me how State AGs would be able to force the DoJ to do anything to the President, even setting aside prosecutorial discretion?

This is an insane hagiography one of the biggest crypto scammers of all time who got what he paid for with this Trump crypto investment - his investigation by the SEC dropped. He's "a little shady"? How did this even make it past the editors? Who is this reporter?

“Anyone I know that got involved with the project just did it because they knew Trump was enough of a crook to not let this fail,” says the longtime crypto investor who did not invest. “That anybody could be surprised by what has happened is the only shocking part.”

sn't it at least a little weird that lettuce prices rose through June despite sales falling after the cyclospora outbreak cases starting May 13? I thought the whole argument for deregulation was it makes things cheaper. Is it a premium on diarrhea-lettuce? fred.stlouisfed.org/series/APU00...

Crypto has become everything it claims to hate about finance but worse. Unlike traditional industry, they also use their political clout to press for far right social policies. You can't understand crypto without understanding its politics. prospect.org/2026/07/24/c...
