Abdul El-Sayed was outspent 9-to-1 by AIPAC and corporate Super PACs in the most expensive Senate Democratic primary of all time. Last night, he proved that organized people can beat organized money.

EUNAVFOR MED IRINI is the EU’s naval operation in the Mediterranean, monitoring shipping and carrying out boardings and inspections to help enforce international rules at sea. This is about protecting international security, seas, and environment.

IRINI and European countries have inspected sanctioned vessels linked to Russia’s shadow fleet — ageing, opaquely owned tankers used to evade sanctions and transporting aboard individuals with links to the Russian private military groups.

The change in responses over time is telling us something with this question, but precisely what? Gerrymandering and the VRA’s demise have received unprecedented media coverage this cycle, and there’s no way to disentangle thinking that’s unfair from thinking Trump will somehow throw out votes 🤷‍♂️

Pew Research Center stacked bar chart titled "Confidence in the fairness and accuracy of elections is lower than in past years, but with no partisan gap." Subtitle: percent who are blank confident that the elections this November will be conducted fairly and accurately. Each bar stacks "very" confident (dark gold, bottom) and "somewhat" confident (light gold, top), with the net total labeled above. Three panels show Total, Republicans and Republican leaners, and Democrats and Democratic leaners, each across four survey dates.

Total: April 2020, net 59 (14 very, 45 somewhat); August 2022, net 64 (25, 39); July 2024, net 61 (24, 37); July 2026, net 55 (15, 40).

Republican/lean Republican: April 2020, net 75 (20 very, 55 somewhat); August 2022, net 46 (12, 34); July 2024, net 47 (11, 36); July 2026, net 55 (13, 42).

Democrat/lean Democrat: April 2020, net 46 (9 very, 37 somewhat); August 2022, net 81 (37, 43); July 2024, net 77 (39, 38); July 2026, net 58 (18, 39).

Source: Survey of U.S. adults conducted July 6–12, 2026.

It would be helpful to split this into separate poll questions. It’s reasonable to think vote counting will be (basically) accurate but our electoral system is unfair. How insightful is a poll where Democrats holding that view can only express it by giving the same answer as MAGA election deniers?

New: A narrow majority of Americans (55%) are confident that this November’s midterm elections will be conducted fairly and accurately – down from 61% ahead of the 2024 elections, 64% in 2022 and 59% in 2020. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

And if your response is, "but I, a person who lives in a wealthy and largely food self-sufficient country, do not like the modern economy" fucking miss me with that. I am not particularly interesting in letting millions of Asians and Africans starve so your politics can be trendy.

The problem is that as we're seeing with the Strait of Hormuz, "the USA forfeits its global ambitions" does not lead to a new age of peace and sunshine, but to global recession and instability. The Strait of Hormuz is not the only load-bearing instance of US power backstopping modern economies.

I think the traditional answer is actually "forfeit your global ambitions because you can't afford them and voters won't make the sacrifices necessary to restore them," unfortunately
