I talked with a student and they are going to apply to a conference! This is the first time I have done anything like this! But they've been doing so great this semester and there are a couple small online things going on this summer I think would work great. I feel like a real professor! Exciting 🤩

Teaching isn’t whatever romantic ideal you have of Michelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds or Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society. It’s constant power struggles, constant emotional labor, for little pay and little acknowledgement.
Somehow all of us who teach are supposed to go to work tomorrow and stand in front of a room of people who hate school and hate reading and hate learning, and we’re supposed to pretend like anything we do or say matters in a country that also hates education.
I simply do not believe the truth of our existence is that we have to be this selfish and malicious to be happy
