I grew up with the theatrical cut -- or rather, the unrated VHS cut that contained additional violence -- I didn't know a single person who liked the VO, and we were all excited when the Director's Cut came out in '92. So I'm fascinated when I meet people who actually prefer the theatrical!

Now watching Blade Runner (1982) BBC is currently showing the Theatrical Version with the voiceover. I happen to know this is also the version that’s on Amazon Prime. It’s my favorite thing ever but as someone raised on the Director’s Cut I really dislike the narration.

This makes me miss NYC. Even without fireworks, that subway ride between Brooklyn and Manhattan across the bridge and over the river never failed to take my breath away.

A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.

A funny thing I found out today is that while in France, the title of Get Shorty is Stars and Crooks ("Stars et Truands"), in Quebec it literally translates as "That's the Little One We Need."

In Quebec, Danny DeVito is the little one we need.

Man, I'm sad to hear this. If you've read Dale Pollock's Skywalking -- and I probably read it two dozen times growing up -- I think you come away feeling like she was the secret beating heart of so many movies we know and love. I'm glad we got to see and hear more from her in the last decade.

Imagine being the person who cut both Taxi Driver and Star Wars, two of the best edited films ever made! Her brilliant career feels infuriatingly brief, cut short by the stress of working with one of the most difficult friend groups in Hollywood history.
