#RPGaDay2026 - Day 6: Meet Isabeau, a scholar with wanderlust.
RPGaDay 2026 – Day 6
Intellect & Reach - Isabeau Garin, Neutral Human Most teachers prefer to set up classes in a fixed location, dealing with a local audience. This was never enough for Isabeau. She wants to educate and illuminate as many people as possible, and the only way to do that is to leave the classroom and take the knowledge to the people where they are.

#RPGaDay2026 - Day 5: Meet Barnold Silverbeak, a librarian with a taste for knowledge.
RPGaDay 2026 – Day 5
Intellect & Burden - Barnold Silverbeak, Lawful Neural Owlin Many residents of the City have come from elsewhere, but not many have come from other worlds. Maly has come from the magic-infused realm of Arcavios, specifically the university of Strixhaven, with the goal of making knowledge more accessible to the populace. To this end, he has taken up the role of overseeing the City’s main library.

#RPGaDay2026 - Day 4: Meet Sybel Neray, city councillor who engages in teapot diplomacy.
RPGaDay 2026 – Day 4
Intellect & Charm - Sybel Neray, Lawful Neutral Halfling Each district sends representatives to sit on the city council. Most of these are people interested in an elevated status and the opportunity to further their personal situation, but a few are genuinely interested in helping their neighbours. Sybel is one of them, using her innate charisma and way with words to win support for her causes.

#RPGaDay2026 - Day 3: Meet Brytha, a historian with a taste for dancing.
RPGaDay 2026 – Day 3
Intellect & Poise - Brytha, Neutral Elf It’s not unusual for students of history to turn their education into art. Galleries overflow with paintings of great battles and momentous occasions, and there are enough poems and plays to fill a grand library. Brytha prefers to express her knowledge through dance, turning dry history into swirling performances. What began as a way to earn some extra marks in school grew into an almost full time profession.

#RPGaDay2026 - Day 2: Meet Orulf, a community advocate who doesn't take no for an answer.
RPGaDay 2026 – Day 2
Drive & Stature - Orulf, Lawful Good Dwarf Used to being looked down on by others, Orulf uses this to his advantage when organising within his neighbourhood. While other species will use their height or physicality to their advantage, he relies on a seemingly unending supply of determination and willpower to outlast his opponents. Operating out of his own house in a front room converted into a sort of office, Orulf meets with locals who have run afoul of one of the various city organisations.

#RPGaDay2026 - Day 1: Meet Bertom, a labourer who dreams of bigger things.
RPGaDay 2026 – Day 1
And we're off! I probably should have mentioned this yesterday, but for my characters I'm opting to create NPCs for the campaign setting I created for RPGaDay 2025. Since that entire setting took place within a single sprawling city, these characters will all have a degree of urbanity to them, but to mix things up I'm not limiting myself to the species found in the Players Handbook.

I wonder if their new 'report AI slop' feature works on comments.
Two thirds of the posts celebrating NZF's "English is now an official language" post on linkedin contain spelling mistakes 🤣 It is "Hear hear", not "Here here". And Anne didn't end her sentence with a period.
Tomorrow is August and that means it's time for #RPGaDay2026. Click through to read up on what's happening this year.
RPGaDay 2026
This has been a strange year. There have been weeks that felt like days and days that felt like month, but all that is behind us know for tomorrow is August. That means it's time for the annual celebration of all things roleplaying games that is RPGaDay! We're now 13 years into what started out as something to do for everyone who couldn't make it to Gen Con in Indianapolis.

#BHN As we enter election season looking to political parties to chat with us and one in particular is finding it difficult to find time in their diaries we just wanted them to know that BHN speaks to over 13% of eligible voters in NZ each month #nzpol #nzpolitics @chewienz.bsky.social
There are been a lot of announcements and previews at this year's Comic Con, but THIS is the one I've been hoping for.

Damnit LEGO. Putting a Flukeman minifig in this box and the Scully's Lab GWP was enough to get me on board. This is just unnecessary teasing. Don't stop.
Gillian Anderson has officially revealed the upcoming 1,478-piece LEGO set for THE X-FILES. The set is centered on Mulder’s office, paired with a forest clearing scene and a hovering UFO. Includes 8 minifigures, featuring Mulder, Scully, The Flukeman & more. August 4.

This seems like an easy win for rail. Next, get the line to Auckland electrified so Te Huia can go electric and travel all the way to Waitematā Station.

Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley

A drawing today about the recent passing of actor and gentle man Sam Neill (and his duck Charlie Pickering), and I guess about the landscape he loved.
Spaceballs: The New One: The Teaser Poster. In theaters April 2027.
Hero paleontologist Sam Neill has died. He never would have crushed our dreams by suggesting Dinosaurs had lips, like the Sickos in the “scientific community” did. @theonion.com
I didn't know Sam Neill closely, but we were 'pub and shopping neighbours' for over a decade. Not a bad word to say, never crossed paths without thinking "what a lovely, funny man." Would often see him at wine tastings, pouring glasses and tidying up alongside the bar staff. Normal as bloke.
Sam Neill was a fantastic actor, but a great guy in real life as well. A good-natured bloke who gave his animals famous names and made lavender wine. Legend.
