Models are reductive, however, they are not other than that which they attempt to conceptualize. Instead they become another part of the complex they are attempting to observe. Models have agency.
Hey STS, historians and sociologists of science 🧬🧪🩺… Can you recommend great writing on the evolution of peer review? Not the philosophy thereof (tho that’s welcome) but as actually done + the institutions + culture norms that support it (Am I allowed to ask @jackiantonovich.bsky.social ?)
Anticipation is not, or at least, should not be, simply an extrapolation of the present. It is a complex, non-linear process which tries to find some trajectory, some way of “vaulting” from that which has already been experienced to that which has to be coped with.
I can neither confirm nor deny the rumor that I have been known to re-shelve Rand from Philosophy sections to Young Adult Fiction.

One of the tricks is to realize, it is going to be terrible; that’s not something to be worried about. The only way to clear out the terrible is to exorcise it from your brain via the ancient rites of… scribbling it down: then reading it to yourself. Slows the words down so you can see what works.
