The updates on Watch Duty are very disheartening. The fire is right up against dense residential and pushing in hard. Sounds like evacuation traffic may not be flowing ("use side streets"). There was very little time from the start of the fire until now: just four hours.

Serious wildland-urban interface (WUI) fire situation in Spokane, WA amid "extremely critical/Particularly Dangerous Situation" fire weather conditions. Two separate fires, #OldTrailsFire & #FairViewFire, are actively burning near/in neighborhoods; mass evacs ongoing. #WAwx

The Larkspur Ferry / SMART timings (north & southbound) still suck and need to be fixed. This level of schedule coordination -- regular 30 and 40 minutes waits between ferry arrival and SMART departure -- isn't excusable. Golden Gate Transit's 101 in San Rafael does significantly better.

Time to dig into what I hear is a modern classic of Californian politics.

In the 70s-80s Curtis Green and H. Welton Flynn reinvented Muni while other cities abandoned transit. Art Agnos staked his political future on demolishing the Embarcadero Fwy. I can't wait to hear more about these inspiring figures, esp @peterhartlaub.bsky.social interviewing Mayor Agnos himself

I find myself once again incensed by how much the U.S. subsidies mortgages: an $81.3B in tax deductions for FY26. SALT is another ~$20B in lost federal income. $100B a year in subsidies to home owners! In comparison, the US spends ~$36B a year on low-income rental assistance.
