i have dealt with a lot of grief about my name over the course of my life but the contested etymology of it is genuinely one of the more interesting i've ever encountered about any word, as a big dork who looks up the etymology of words and names a lot

anyway. polling is very hard! and it is not at all clear to me that we will successfully solve for this in narrower categories (like midsize-state senate primary races) basically ever again

as an aside i am looking at the total numbers coming in for this swing state primary and thinking about all the money that gets spent to win it and how it has the same number of senators as california

obviously have my preference but my primary concern in michigan, where i don't live, is winning and i don't see any reason to assume either candidate couldn't so i gotta admit in that context i am kind of enjoying watching a tightening race with fun numbers to parse coming in

i am exhausted and forced myself into a 45 minute bike ride anyway and the primary night news is dripping in incredibly slowly and you know what that means: breakfast burrito and tater tot

Two more GOP amendments go down to crushing defeats, both in MO. #4 would have made future ballot initiatives impossible to pass by requiring winning a majority statewide *and* in each congressional district. #5 would have eliminated the state income tax.

NEW: Voters have rejected Republicans' scheme to unseat the Kansas Supreme Court's Dem-appointed majority and overturn abortion rights. Amendment 1 would have let the GOP replace the system of a nominating commission, gubernatorial appointment, and retention elections with direct partisan elections

Republican power grabs in Kansas and Missouri are going down in flames with 18-25% of votes reported so far. Missouri's Amendment 4 aimed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments practically impossible. Kansas' Amendment 1 was designed to flip the state Supreme Court to ban abortion

utterly cruel of nbc news to advertise their steve kornacki election night coverage in commercials on ms now. took their golden election data boy in the divorce and pranced him all around their new neighborhood

the low hum of background anxiety leading up to november is not fun and i think we should all agree to move the calendar up three months. thank you for your attention to this matter
