I was not surprised by her first two complaints: general anger issues and having few outside hobbies. I WAS surprised at her mention of how many men apparently don’t wash their hair or butts.
the logical end point of “barack HUSSEIN obama” was always that a far-right christian republican black man would be considered muslim/arabic/i frankly don’t even know how we describe this specific kind of bigotry because of his skin and name and therefore disqualified from public office

i have dealt with a lot of grief about my name over the course of my life but the contested etymology of it is genuinely one of the more interesting i've ever encountered about any word, as a big dork who looks up the etymology of words and names a lot

geoffrey@parsnip.bsky.social · 21h agosome of us took the implicit premise of "vote blue no matter who," that after the primary majorities and margins are more important than intra-partisan factional disputes, pretty seriously and it increasingly looks like that group did not include a lot of the people yelling "vote blue no matter who"
The total amount a UK political party can spend in a General election year across 650 candidates is half that - and this was a single candidate in a single primary.

This level of spending actually makes me deeply angry. Let's never do this again in a primary ok

the answer to this is almost everything, and the more-ness of the stuff, and how much of it is bad to hit a low price point, is muddying it. the most notable exception i can think of is clothes, we pretty much solved that a few hundred years ago

anyway. polling is very hard! and it is not at all clear to me that we will successfully solve for this in narrower categories (like midsize-state senate primary races) basically ever again

i am once again repeating: despite my preference for the other candidate i am going to miss haley stevens' voice. i like it a lot
is there even an argument for this? like i think appealing to the bipartisan center is largely bunk but to the extent that there's a case to be made it's that otherwise the other candidate will win that imagined group. it's a democratic wave year and andy biggs was a key stop the stealer!

as an aside i am looking at the total numbers coming in for this swing state primary and thinking about all the money that gets spent to win it and how it has the same number of senators as california
obviously have my preference but my primary concern in michigan, where i don't live, is winning and i don't see any reason to assume either candidate couldn't so i gotta admit in that context i am kind of enjoying watching a tightening race with fun numbers to parse coming in
i needed 1/8 of a cup of roasted peanuts for this recipe and they were sold out of smaller tins of peanuts and i, a brain genius, did not think to simply omit the peanuts or go to the gas station for a little bag of them so now what am i gonna do with all these god damn peanuts
