In #MathsToday I am staying relevant by using this 67 task with Year 12 in my Proof by Counterexample lesson. Nice discussion, for example in part d, this fact forms PART of a counter-example but isn't complete. Task from Underground Maths undergroundmathematics.org/counting-and...
In #MathsToday my Year 7s have discovered Blooket but i'd rather they were doing some analogue work on fractions of amounts so they are being treated to a tarsia You can nab these here: www.mrchapmanmaths.com/number I have a tarsia generator on my site too www.mrchapmanmaths.com/tools/tarsia...
I love hearing questions i've never been asked x + y = 10 "Is 10 the subject?" #MathsToday
Lovely related activity on Underground Maths. Really like the discussion of alternative methods, particularly using polynomials! #MathsToday #AlevelMaths #UKMathsChat undergroundmathematics.org/polynomials/...

Maths BlueSky I come seeking resources: I have students wanting some prep work for ESAT and TMUA Paper 1 Where would you be directing students for self-prep for these? Thanks in advance
In #MathsToday , I used this absolutely wonderful Don Steward task, on writing equations as "I'm thinking of a number" problems At the start, pupils were keen to try and solve by 'doing the same thing to both sides' but on the bigger problems, they ... [1/2] donsteward.blogspot.com/2012/02/line...

*** NEW POST *** In this post I take a look at things I see in geography lessons that raise red flags - not because of what they tell me about an individual teacher, but what they tell me about the approach taken in a department or school. learningtoteachgeography.substack.com/p/an-inspect...
In #MathsToday - Pie charts! Love this as a starting point for pie charts. Why can you work out what flag they are? Because of your ability to reason with proportion. You could make your own version of this using this flags tool shaheeilyas.com/flags/
As we begin our first lessons of the year I have used this for a few years as my first lesson activity. I absolutely love it. There's something about the way it seems impossible on first sight but as you work through it gets easier and easier that I love. nrich.maths.org/problems/sha...
Hello to teacher bluesky who are all returning from summers. Hope you all had thrilling GDPR reminders and such today.
Thoughts on what to do with • O level papers from 1961-1970 • 'the slide rule in every day use' • 90s examiners reports Greatly appreciated
Picked up one of these clock puzzles on holiday at Easter. I showed my Year 7s and they went bananas for it. Of course I don't have a class set of these puzzles so... www.mrchapmanmaths.com/tools/clock-... Enjoy playing with it and figuring out how it works! Solve one side, then both simultaneousl

I love the Don Steward Quads on a Dotty Grid task: donsteward.blogspot.com/2017/08/quad... It's nice on paper but I have put together this tool to do it online. www.mrchapmanmaths.com/geometry/qua...
Ofqual haven’t helped by perpetuating the idea that contingency papers exist for specific exams - they don’t. All an exam board can do if they need to make a late change is bring forward next year’s paper (which will be already written). For modular exams (eg C3) this was quite straightforward 1/3
I absolutely love the Pentominoes project from nrich nrich.maths.org/problems/pen... I couldn't find any multi-link cubes in my dept so I put together an applet for students to discover the 12 pentominoes www.mrchapmanmaths.com/geometry/pen... #MathsToday (1/2)
Today I have put together a polar integration task There are solutions Available to download as an editable .docx and .pdf here www.mrchapmanmaths.com/ks5

Thought this might be worth a reshare for people having conversations with year 12s about university applications. A spreadsheet of UCAS data by STEM subject (tabs along bottom) showing published entry criteria, most common grade profile and lowest grades of students accepted on to the course. 1/2
In #MathsToday we did some nth term revision with Y7 with a brief Blooket at the end. I'm always impressed with no. of questions students are able to get through... 1,323 in SIX minutes for a class of 30-- 44 on average. Pretty good for those times you want lots of quick repetitive practice
In #MathsToday we used some of "Tyler Tutoring"'s TMUA preparation materials. I chose the pack themed around circles (second half of Coordinate Geometry Worksheet 3). A good mix of problems www.tylertutoring.com/tmua

A #MathArt project with my #calculus class! A "Riemondrian" art project inspired by @mathzorro.bsky.social. Students used a Riemann Sum to approximate the area under their curve. Then created additional blocks of color using custom color palettes (this one is "Moon Mist"). #ITeachMath #MathsToday
Some things on @transum.bsky.social just do the job so well. Loved using this Venn paint task with my 10s today-- set notation went the best it has with this. #MathsToday
