Wisconsin has the second-worst "brain drain" rate in the country, with college-educated adults born in the state leaving at a higher rate than similarly educated people moving in, according to a Wisconsin Policy Forum analysis.

People ask why Republicans sometimes vote against their economic self-interest, and this is a big part of the answer. At least some of them are willing to make economic sacrifices if it gets them to the society they want.

Yes. As I argue in this piece, MAGA has revealed their position to be that full ethnic cleansing is the priority *over and above* the economy. Jack Posobiec says it almost directly: "put deportations first." As in, put deportations *before* economic concerns.

i started this train of thought as a joke but now i do think there's something to the idea that the way to sell the green revolution to the US public is that we're being denied Good Deals on cheap chinese cars and solar panels and there's nothing more unamerican than saying we can't have a good deal

Win or lose, I'm impressed by how long Hong has been able to stay in the race. Seems like she's been able to portray herself as the change candidate in a year favorable to that. I think she could go all the way.

Ask Senator Cassidy about the assurances on vaccines from RFKjr. Ask Senator Collins about vows to respect RoevWade from Kavenaugh. Ask Trump's former bankers, bondholders, shareholders, vendors, wives about how he keeps his word. Tillis and Cornyn are too smart to believe this.

1. Scholar of religion and theology here. I teach a course on Christian nationalism and American politics every year at KU. While I appreciate this thread, I would argue that America *is* a Christian nation—but specifically for the reasons identified by Matthew Avery Sutton in his new book.

Old churches in England very often display the Lord's Prayer and the Apostle's Creed on either side of the chancel. Why? Because that was the minimum they thought a good Christian needed to know because that was often the most they could get people to memorize. Believe it deeply? Well...

Still the deadliest wildfire in U.S. history: the Oct 8, 1871, Peshtigo, Wisc., fire killed as many as 2,500. Same day as Chicago fire, but with many more deaths and no cow to blame. Slash-and-burn land management resulted in too much burn. A museum and graveyard for the victims stands in town.

Once again, I am recommending people google the Peshtigo fire, if they like to terrorize themselves

I sometimes think Oliver is intransigent (love you, man) but not here. It's the same logic as with abortion: the kind of people who vote against transgender rights don't vote for Democrats. So you wind up dealing away humanity for nothing. It's wrong in principle and wrong on a practical level.

I will not negotiate away anybody’s human rights and I will oppose any politician who thinks that is an ok stance. I don’t care what party. If you’re going to support democrats who oppose transgender humanity the entire thing isn’t worth fighting for. The line must be drawn.
