Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.

We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.
It would be rad if we didn’t have minute-to-minute coverage of elections and just reported results when they were finished. This exasperated, hyperventilating theater is good for ratings but also just bullshit.

This comes after Cornyn and Tillis said they will vote to confirm him. Murkowski has not said how she would vote to confirm him. Same for Bill Cassidy.
The Missouri SoS dragged out his office's examination of the veto referendum (of the GOP gerrymander) for most of 2026 to ensure he can run out the clock; and finally declared today, on the deadline by which he had to act, that he thinks the veto referendum is entirely unconstitutional.

The idea that a war only exists if there are casualties does not appear in the text of the Constitution. Nor does it appear in Madison’s notes on the Constitutional convention debates. Nor is there evidence it was discussed in ratification debates. It is made up.

Private credit companies are key owners of AI-related assets. Many of their parent private equity firms own life insurers that are dumping grounds for bad loans—and subject to state bailouts.
Instead of passing through bankruptcy, insolvent life insurers have all their liabilities—in particular the policyholder claims—paid for by state guaranty funds.

The NYT has a new very long article ostensibly about why Brad Karp of law firm Paul Weiss capitulated to Trump, but it never actually explains why. Karp (later ousted for his Epstein ties), wanted to give in so badly he lied to his own partners about it. But this para is all you get from the NYT. 1/
