The dude on the right looks like Vance and Miller had a baby.
JD Vance: "We don't want the next administration, whoever -- god forbid you're gonna have President El-Sayed in three years ... "
I detailed much much more of the call here (hmu for a copy)
Todd Blanche Is Claiming That He Can Ban Abortion In Any State
As he fights to be confirmed as attorney general, Blanche is trying to appease Christian-right groups with wild legal theories about restricting abortion.
newrepublic.com
Dying at the right-wing activists that (1) held a call with Todd Blanche in which Blanche made a lot of anti-abortion promises, (2) said "uh this is off the record" like doing so would magically ward off journalists, and then (3) UPLOADED IT TO THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL www.politico.com/news/2026/08...
In case there were any doubt, Gov. Laura Kelly endorses Cindy Holscher for govenor: "We need a leader who will bring people together to make life better for Kansas families, not one who will sow division and chaos while pushing an extreme agenda. That is why I’m supporting Cindy Holscher" #ksleg
It’s the 50th anniversary of the time Eric Clapton went onstage and told everyone who wasn’t British to leave the room and the country, and was the impetus for Rock Against Racism
Thank you, @rephaleystevens.bsky.social: this is a model for how every Dem who lost in a primary should act.

Former J6 federal prosecutors are begging senators -- mostly GOPers, but a handful of Dems are in there, too -- to stop confirming election deniers to lifetime federal courts seats. “Please stop poisoning our courts." www.huffpost.com/entry/live-u...

I am psyched that Ethan Spurling won a Douglas County Commissioner seat and that Kansas defeated the constitutional amendment designed to politicize judges. I didn't think Cindy Holscher's campaign for KS governor had legs, but I'm very happy to be wrong: I'm all in.
The only way to register a complaint with @americanair.bsky.social is to use a digital form that DOES NOT WORK. So great to waste 5.5 hours at the airport and then an hour-plus more to complain. An American Airlines IT worker had to do the writeup. Absolutely unacceptable from a major airline.
Google is bad. On purpose.
When Google's users searched for airlines' toll-free phone numbers, Google directed them to phones that rang in the scammers' boiler room, where they were tricked into giving up their passport info and credit card numbers to boiler-room thieves: www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-ne... 20/
NY Times calls the Kansas constitutional amendment: it's a no! Once again, Kansans make a stand.
The NYT has called it for the "no" votes, which are winning 70-30 with 27% of votes counted #ksleg
Preach, Neko Case! (It would be great if more people actually fucking listened.) nekocase.substack.com/p/in-what-fu...
IN WHAT FUCKING UNIVERSE?
This last week I was just cookin’ along minding my business when I suddenly found myself quite depressed.
nekocase.substack.com
It will depress you! Sorry about that but it’s kind of my jam. I selected well-written books, some of them are even wryly funny at times — if you come from a culture with macabre humor. Still, the issue is big, complex, and scary. All the more reason for us to face it together.
A reading list that I know will depress me, but one that also seems vital to understand (and fight this version of) the future. From the brilliant @tressiemcphd.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/o...
The Rock and Roll Reading we're putting on in conjunction with Printers Row Literary Fest is set for 6 p.m. September 11 at the Rainbo Club in Chicago's Wicker Park. A dozen or so readers will read for 3 minutes or less about rock and rock (or any of its precursors/offshoots).As always, it's free.
If you’re considering whether terms like ethnic cleansing or pogrom might be applicable to impending government action, there could be a problem.

This is an incredibly niche ask, but, does anyone have an egg foo young recipe they like? I recently learned it is a favorite of my mom’s. I order it out, usually, but I’d like to learn to make it.
On the state of college basketball, from @theathletic.com: “There’s guys that can barely walk and chew gum at the same time that are making like $2 million,” said the SEC assistant.
going on vacation is cool and all but have you ever slept in your own bed?
Man in the CVS parking lot keeping a cooler in the back of his truck and giving cold water bottles to the houseless people who congregate outside. It can be as simple as that, friends.
Am I correct in this? Did not one single journalist walk out during Trump's "speech"?
Two, very obvious, things which really struck me in Copenhagen. 1. Bikes racked up everywhere. But almost no bike locks. 2. No gates on public transport. You buy a ticket and present it if asked. Didn’t see any ticket inspectors. High trust societies are good.
the woke mind virus prevented hollywood from accurately casting the odyssey with jason mantzoukas as odysseus
Actual @nytimes headline. So much of the bonkers shit I made up for my novel SHIT LIST (about a Trumpian president, NBA basketball, and indie rock) is actually fucking happening,
@fulmerford.com Juan, I just sent a message to your campus email.
