SU isn’t the first/last, but it’s weird how detached admins are from student/industry needs. Jobs: In an AI world we should hire lots of humanities people. They know how to problem solve. Admin: Cut humanities! Make AI courses! Either admins are incompetent or it’s not about student needs at all

…and this is why we need to oust as many timid establishment dems as possible. If we don’t get it right this time with deep sweeping reforms and prosecutions, it’s hard to see an ultimate outcome besides fascism or civil war. I’m not saying it will, but it sure feels that way.

Parents (USA) with college students: Have any of you found a way to lower car insurance? My kid is moving to college and so will drive the car maybe 3 months a year now. Feels absurd to pay $2,500 a year for insurance when be drives so infrequently.

I have this experience with student writing. I can’t grade a paper that’s polished without worrying about AI. I don’t want to praise someone and then turn out to be had because I wasn’t attentive enough to AI tells. I miss just being able to praise a student and be excited for their work.

I think the thing I resent most about gen AI- and this is a selfish thing to say but it’s true- is that it’s put an asterix on my sense of wonder. What I mean is that now when I see an amazing or beautiful image I can’t have that initial “wow!” reaction. I doubt. I have to verify. I hate it.

Tripling union membership would… -Raise the median worker’s wages by $7k+ annually -Reverse 1/3 of the increase in inequality since 1979 -Increase the number of people with health insurance And more. Unions are the key to taking on runaway corporate power. Every worker deserves one.
