Italy’s always a bit late on the best global trends, so no wonder we still have old-school climate deniers. This guy was offered an entire page on a newspaper arguing there are no statistically significant changes in summertime temperatures in Italy. His own plot says there’s a 0.5C/decade trend.

If first and foremost you don’t find thousands of deaths from a heatwave heartbreaking you’re a sicko.

This was a fascinating historical read. What I am curious about is that the piece seem to heavily imply that there is a counterfactual world in which the paper would have come out anyway, but be less “sexy”, hence both public policy & academic focus would have shifted to rely more on mitigation.

Looks like folks think it's ok to lie in an op-ed on @theguardian.com because cumulatively the authors have "100 years of climate science experience". I think science should not be misinterpreted to make a political point (even 1 I agree with), and what you see in the screenshot is totally false.

But if the side of "trust in the expert"/"believe the science" is willing to lie and misinterpret scientific evidence to make a completely different point about governance (on which I largely agree!) then it doesn't fill me with extreme confidence, or pride on being part of the scientific community.
