the median midwestern voter loves two things: electing republicans and thwarting republican policy goals via ballot referendum

I personally need to be more skeptical of internal candidate/PAC polling. When I've passed on some, I always see it with a competitor, which isn't fun. But there was some polling that made it look like Stevens was down 15+ points that really bent coverage.
Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe
Yeah, an important thing to remember about Miller is that he's a fairly dumb guy (six years to finish a state school BA - remember the joke from Tommy Boy) who landed in Congress bc he worked for Trump and Trump needed someone to take an impeachment AYE republican's seat
this man went from Lululemon + some DUI/simple assault, nothing on his CV, to White House and Congress; I'm thinking he's feeling a bit too confident about his chances of getting through this
Glad I own this soundtrack on CD, it never seems to be streaming.
Your periodic reminder that Velvet Goldmine is back on Criterion Channel, rightfully under the "Rock biopics that don't suck" category.
This just might be the most psychotic act of sexual harassment I’ve ever seen. Not the worst per se, or most menacing but in terms of sheer insanity it’s really up there.
for months, ive been trying to map out the ways the right and the left were uniting against data centers and AI both here's my story on my efforts, featuring steve bannon's anti-tech prophet, my girlfriend's high school english class, and the unabomber:
How Data Centers Broke American Politics
What the Unabomber, Steve Bannon’s tech guy, and Bernie Sanders taught me about the great data center backlash of 2026.

TAPPER: Hold on -- hold on, 'cause I'm not done with the list of women who have accused you of violence. Are all three of them lying? REP. MAX MILLER: Yes. And I'm not getting out of the race because in 2016, President Donald J Trump faced the most extreme allegations in the world ...
The "nearly orgasmic" part is just Freud, who I'm sure also ate a lot of sauerkraut.
Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.
This is convincing. Every Dem is going to get asked about the shiny new thing (or old tweet) from a left-wing Dem candidate. I do think the incentives are different for someone running on same ballot as, say, Abdul (Hilary Scholten) and some candidate just being tied to the left (Cait Conley).
New in PN: Moderate Democrats have a choice to make "They can spend the next three months reinforcing Republican messaging about their party & making it less likely Dems take power. Or they can put the 'battle for the soul of the party' off for a while and do what they can to help their party win."
What are some of your favourite moments from the last two decades of “Comics Unleashed”?
Byron Allen's ‘Comics Unleashed' is getting a two-hour anniversary showcase as CBS settles into its post-Stephen Colbert late-night strategy.
But they feel like they could be, which is more important.
Hundreds of AI 'news' accounts are spreading claims like Kroger, Walmart, Costco, Shell, GM and Ford are all leaving Democrat-run states amid an economical collapse. None of these claims are true. www.semafor.com/article/08/0...
Been thinking this in regards to the SAVE America Act. Most likely it fails. But if Rs get some version of a bill that looked "dead" bc the president never shuts the fuck up about it and signs EOs to kludge it until his party passes a version of it.. you'd be stupid not to copy that!
Something I think that underlies a lot of debates within the Democratic party and center-left right now is whether or not you think Trumpism has been successful as a political and ideological project. (Not, obviously, whether it's been good or not).
(addendum: if you want to read the book, it's called "the lost subways of north america". if you get a copy directly from me, i'll sign it for you)

Laura, and I can't emphasize this enough, LOOMER doing this. what the fuck man
Been listening to albums/eras of bands I skipped bc I heard they were bad. Maybe there’s some gold in Tony Martin-era Black Sabbath? There is not. Don’t be like me.

It's useful to think of MSM news in PR terms. PR people fight to get as many column inches for their client as possible and as few inches that make them look bad. This week, the big Fox stories were Fauci and DSA. Iran war? What Iran war?
Some data points on the right-wing obsession with Fauci. He was: *mentioned 687 on Fox News and 740 times on Newsmax in a four day period. *compared to Hitler and Epstein, and declared a mass murderer by multiple prominent right wing media stars who called for his imprisonment.
I’m a subscriber to @spotlightdelaware.bsky.social but also pretty critical of their coverage, & particularly the way that their revenue streams (events, sponcon) color, or at least contextualize, their reporting. But credit where it’s due; they’re reporting on their own advertisers’ dark money.
Corporate law giants pour nearly $1M into campaign ad blitz for Democratic incumbents

It's pretty clear by now that the biggest Hasan Sin - that he joked "America deserved 9/11" one time - bounces off most voters. Like it or not, people make and laugh at offensive humor. Most don't hear that Hasan quote and sing "Have You Forgotten?" They say, "lol good irony."
They’re also weirdly obsessed with Hasan Piker and even making demands for his denunciation. It’s all extremely illiberal and about as far from progressivism as you can get while still claiming to be left of center. Very odd to watch play out, but helpful to see them show themselves, I guess.
What Bari Weiss is doing to CBS News is so disappointing. I expect better from the head of a successful university
