Huge South Florida sports fan supporting the Florida Panthers, Inter Miami, Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, Miami Hurricanes, and when they’re interesting: Miami Marlins. Frequent traveler, digital nomad, hiker, and craft beer lover.

Air quality. I grew up in the Los Angeles basin in the 70s and 80s and remember having to stay inside because the smog was so bad - Stage 2 smog alerts, they were called. Apparently they haven't had one of those since 1988. Haven't had a stage one smog alert since 2003.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

Talarico’s argument is simple: Stop treating marijuana like a crime. Legalize it. Regulate it. Tax it. Stop wasting police resources on low-level marijuana offenses. Clear the records of people whose lives have been derailed by nonviolent marijuana convictions.

A new investigation reveals that at least 50 police officers from all over the U.S. have been caught abusing their access to Flock's automatic license plate reader database, including to stalk women. This is just one of the many reasons to get these creepy cameras off our streets.

ACLU of Wisconsin@acluofwi.bsky.social · yesterday

Wisconsin is making national news because so many police officers have been charged or convicted with using the Flock surveillance network to stalk people. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2026/08/02/how-police-officers-used-vast-network-cameras-spy-their-exes/

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed: Mike Rogers is a guy who wants to put a data center in your backyard so he can feel a bit more manly by making an AI video. If you want a senator who's gonna lick some boots, go vote for Rogers. But if you want a senator who's going to stand up to Trump, you've got your option.

as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

Reuters: Iran wants fees of 5%-7% of the price of cargo from ships using the strait; Oman wants 3%. "Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be unlikely to risk transit without paying."

Notice DOJ doesn't talk about its efforts to obtain state voter files anymore. They are 0-20 in those cases and today is the beginning of the quiet period -- states can no longer do systematic removals of names from the voter rolls. TLDR: We won!🥳

KMBC are saying that Amendment 5 has gone down too. Well done, my fellow Missourians! Now let's make sure there are electoral consequences in November for the dickheads in Jeff City who are pushing this crap whilst trying so hard to make voting meaningless.

Screenshot from KMBC calling Amendment 5 as failed, as the first 18% come in at 16-84.

Getting ready to watch Leagues Cup ⚽️ and the Marlins 🐟 with this Shark Valley, an American IPA from The Tank Brewing in Doral. It’s a single hop brew with Cascade that offers some nice citrus flavor. It’s fine everyday beer but unremarkable. I’ll still enjoy it though. Cheers peeps! 🍻
