Leaders of flag-raising group Raise the Colours Oxfordshire placed trackers on highway workers’ cars to find out their home addresses, the High Court has heard. RTC then attempted to intimidate the highway staff into no longer removing flags by repeating their addresses to them.
“The Civil Service substitutes process for leadership, reorganisations tor transformation, assurance rituals for taking personal accountability and being bold, business cases for doing something, micromanagement for trust and empowerment. That needs to change but how will it?”
In a total coincidence I've just read this great article from @peterdt847.bsky.social about the early GDS era . www.civilservicereformuk.com/single-post/... I really enjoyed it and agreed with the majority but it has a few bits that caused me to give it a bit of a side-eye

A barium meal: what the Government Digital Service’s story reveals about a Civil Service that struggles to reform itself

I wrote this 10 years ago today after the second or third GDS shake-up (what is it now? 10 maybe!). digitalbydefault.com/2016/08/02/c... A lot of the wins mentioned in this post seem lost -
I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.
So it's farewell to the History subject area at the University of Hertfordshire, not the first nor the last to go. One of the best departments in the country, just extinguished like a snap of the fingers. Think of the waste. (1/2)

A common misunderstanding about sharing knowledge is that it's mostly about talking. Really, it's about helping teams connect, learn from each other, and stop solving the same problems twice. See how this was done at GOV.UK Home Office at scale →

Meta's performance review culture is becoming very problematic for its engineering culture. I said this a month ago in @pragmaticengineer.com (screenshot #1), and Semi Analysis said the same last week (screenshot #2). Engineers at Meta are world-class at optimizing for PSC...
At one point she notes that AfD, the German political party that Musk supports, has "real neo-Nazis." Musk literally just shrugs.
Been reflecting on this a bit more, and I think the optics of this are very telling. AI apparently "not a priority" for Burnham, so presumably this is all low-stakes scraps for him, and meanwhile Purnell gets a govt that looks comfortingly like 2009 to play with
It seems funny to me the gossip is that the tech carve-up happened as so many ministers wanted a bit of AI razzle-dazzle, but what are they getting? Waning social license, not enough water for data centres, the risk of the US bubble bursting, financial upside for the big US labs
A very useful explanation. And it all comes down to a mistake by humans.

Did you know that charities working to challenge racism, support refugees & promote human rights increasingly face large-scale online abuse & threats? What this report - quite strikingly - omits to mention is that such abuse often follows hostile UK media attacks /1 news.sky.com/story/staff-...
