While I don’t disagree about Dawkins and that ilk, Hank Green doesn’t belong here. He confessed to using AI for productivity, getting dopamine hits from getting more videos published faster. Workaholism, not succumbing to sycophancy. He’s never had a female assistant to boss around that I know of.

I’m 100% with Amanda on this one. Nathan’s right but incomplete. No market goes from quality, higher priced stuff to cheap, lower priced stuff overnight. They go that way over time because more and more people buy the cheaper options.

I think this thread is basically what I believed when I began covering the consumer system and while a lot of what Nathan is describing is factually correct as to the mechanisms by which the system itself works, I’ve eventually had to admit that a lot of people also do just love cheap bullshit

Yeah if a villain is actually blamelessly right and merely in opposition to the hero/protagonist, then they’re not a villain, they’re an antagonist. Words have meanings.

My fav: when we lived behind the gate at NAS JAX, we had a ButcherBox subscription. They used a gig delivery service called LaserShip. It was a coin flip as to whether the delivery would be assigned to someone with base access. Several times a shipment had to be re-sent because it spoiled.

this is maybe the most annoying thing about this new model of deliveries…even ups assigns their drivers a route that they can work everyday. meanwhile amazon churns through employees/gig workers instead of letting them learn a route.

NEW: Under Bari Weiss, CBS News has shifted to the right to try to grab some of Fox News' audience. Not only have they failed to do that, but they've driven off so much of their core audience that CBS Mornings is now perilously close to getting beaten by Fox & Friends. zeteo.com/p/mamdani-de...

Since taking over CBS News last fall, Weiss has actively shifted the network to the right in an apparent effort to capture some of the conservative audience that regularly watches Fox. At the same time, she wants to appeal to the supposed “70% of the audience that identifies themselves as center-left to center-right,” as her boss David Ellison asserted after he purchased her anti-woke blog The Free Press. The problem is that her strategy appears to be driving an increasing number of CBS News’s core audience away while failing to attract any of Fox’s viewers. In fact, according to Nielsen data obtained by Zeteo, the news network’s weekday offerings are in danger of getting passed by Murdoch’s cable news programs head-to-head. During July, ‘CBS Mornings’ averaged just 1.623 million total viewers per day, compared to the 1.436 million that ‘Fox & Friends’ pulled in for the month. The gap between the shows, now at 13%, has narrowed considerably. When Weiss became the head of the network, ‘CBS Mornings’ held a 26% advantage over Fox’s morning program. July was the lowest-rated month in ‘CBS Mornings’ history. And while the summer months typically bring lower ratings for news shows, the gap between ‘CBS Mornings’ and ‘Fox & Friends’ is tighter than it was last July – when the CBS show held a 23% advantage. Additionally, ‘CBS Evening News’ is on track for its worst month since Weiss installed Tony Dokoupil as its anchor, averaging just 3.814 million total viewers a night. It is also the fourth consecutive month that the program has attracted fewer than 4 million viewers. When reached for comment, a CBS News spokesperson shared a Paramount press release boasting that ‘CBS Evening News’ was narrowly up 2% in total viewers compared to last year, which was the program’s worst July in history.
