💥 The oil/gas industry “publicly underplayed the concerns over methane. And as the natural gas industry faced increasing competition from electric stoves and heaters, industry groups worked on an advertising campaign that highlighted gas as a clean fuel.” Gift: www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/c...

Today’s natural gas-dependent world was not inevitable. Big oil and gas have worked hard to create it for over 50 years, deceiving the public about the climate harms of natural gas. Our report exposes this deception for the 1st time. See ⬇️ for a Dirty Dozen of key investigative findings.

How Big Oil Spent Decades Selling the Myth of ‘Clean’ Natural Gas
A new report reveals oil and gas companies knew as early as the mid-1970s that methane fueled climate change while launching massive PR campaigns to promote natural gas as clean energy.

Our major new investigation is out today packed full of revelations about the oil and gas industry’s decades-long deception over natural gas. We show how big oil and gas created the myth of “clean” natural gas before deceptively marketing it as a climate solution. @climateintegrity.org
This CCI report lays out, for the first time, exactly how the oil & gas industry created and pushed the myth of "clean," climate-friendly natural gas—a myth that persists to this day. This is an INCREDIBLE, meticulously-researched resource for anyone who works on climate.
NEW: Big Oil and Gas created the myth that natural gas is "clean" — despite knowing the health and climate harms of methane decades earlier than previously reported. A major CCI investigation exposes how the gas industry deceived the public and policymakers into believing gas is a climate solution.
Huge investigation out today helmed by @rebleber.bsky.social and @rebeccajohn.bsky.social revealing just how long ago industry knew gas would destroy the climate -- with tons of new details showing how they hid the facts and worked to promote gas as "clean." 👏👏

Chances are you've heard that methane leaks make natural gas worse for the climate than we've been led to believe. And yet many of us still think of gas as the "clean" fossil fuel. That didn't happen by accident.
🚨After months of fossil fuel industry lobbying, Republican lawmakers have introduced federal legislation that would give oil and gas companies immunity from any laws or lawsuits that aim to hold them accountable for their role in the climate crisis. Time to get loud: 📣 NO IMMUNITY FOR BIG OIL 📣
Big Soda and Big Oil want us hooked on plastic. Together, they're working in lockstep to stop "any cap on plastics production," and make sure that efforts to meaningfully address the plastic pollution crisis fail. @joshvoorhees.bsky.social of @fieldnotes.co and @davisallen.bsky.social explain.
🚨 Big Oil wants to take away your right to sue fossil fuel companies for the harm they cause. No matter your politics, we should all agree that no industry should be above the law. Say it with us: 📣 NO IMMUNITY FOR BIG OIL 📣

NEW: For 25 years, four oil giants sold false climate promises through deceptive ad campaigns. Our report examined 300+ ads from BP, Chevron, Exxon, and Shell from 2000-2025. Together they push a false narrative that Big Oil is leading climate solutions. In reality, they're fueling catastrophe.

"Advanced recycling” won't solve the plastic waste crisis. As CCI Senior Investigative Researcher @davisallen.bsky.social told @calmatters.org: “Almost any solution that is based on the idea that plastics can widely be recycled just isn’t really going to work.”

In most applications, I think use of AI is driven less by the promise of improved outcomes than the capacity to present a choice as authoritative or rational in a way that is beyond criticism. Basically, the idea that because something is derived from AI it must be right.
Discussion around advanced recycling is "driven less by the merits or feasibility" of the technology, and more by Big Oil's need to offer a solution "that doesn’t restrict the exponential growth in plastics production," said CCI's @davisallen.bsky.social during a recent panel w/ @eliorg.bsky.social.
