💥 The oil/gas industry “publicly underplayed the concerns over methane. And as the natural gas industry faced increasing competition from electric stoves and heaters, industry groups worked on an advertising campaign that highlighted gas as a clean fuel.” Gift: www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/c...

New one from me: Fracking billionaire Harold Hamm, aka Trump’s ‘original oil guy,’ spent years downplaying the risks of a war from Iran. Now, he aims to profit from an energy crisis he assured US officials wouldn’t happen. 🔎The long version is @fieldnotes.co : fieldnotes.co/reporting/ha...

Chances are you've heard that methane leaks make natural gas worse for the climate than we've been led to believe. And yet many of us still think of gas as the "clean" fossil fuel. That didn't happen by accident.

Hello - I've been let go from Vox. Obviously there's a lot going on in the energy and environment space, and I will continue to follow it. Open to ideas, outlets to pitch, collabs, and happy just to chat. You can reach me at uirfan AT gmail dot com

There are a handful of syndicated climate content collaborations among news outlets that are well intentioned to boost overall climate coverage, however there is disturbing evidence of some outlets abusing this: Replacing laid-off reporters with free content from non-profit newsrooms.

this is an old Vox article I wrote about air pollution data currently listed no. 3 of the most popular stories. It's been permanently on this list for the three(!) years since I wrote this, and linked to directly in Apple's weather app. lesson from this: stop laying off climate/enviro reporters!
