Back in 2008, I was a young staffer in the City Administrator’s office under Adrian Fenty when I called then-DPW Director Bill Howland with an idea: Could we park some trucks at RFK and let kids climb on them? A dozen trucks, and couple hundred kids, turned up the first year.

D.C.’s speed cameras are catching super violators. Most have Va. and Md. tags.
A lack of cross-border cooperation with Virginia and Maryland has allowed habitual speeders from those areas to get away with thousands of dollars in unpaid fines.

🎇 Fireworks Notification: Tonight at 8 pm, there will be a 12-minute fireworks display on the Washington Channel in celebration of The Wharf’s Bloomaroo. DC Fire & EMS will support this safe/professional fireworks display.

Since the 15th Street Protected Bike Lane was installed: • Crashes ⬇️ 46% • Bike injuries ⬇️ 91% Removing the PBL between Constitution Ave and the Tidal Basin would increase conflicts between pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles at one of the busiest times of year.
Excellent work by @wmata.com & Metro Transit Police in making public transportation safer for all users! This dovetails with efforts by @dcpolicedept.bsky.social that have reduced violent crime citywide by 48% YTD compared to 2023.
Safety is our core value, and we’re keeping the momentum going in 2026! Crime continues to trend down on top of our already record-low crime rate in 2025. 📉 We appreciate our regional and Federal partners for their ongoing collaboration and support.
