Americanist genocide scholar here. Inarticulate and stupid arguments about how "Thanksgiving bad because I was a chef" damages our ability to discuss 17th century settler conflict seriously and nukes the necessary conversation about ending the actually harmful holiday for Christopher Columbus.

Francesca Hong was asked last night by Kaitlin Collins if she still believes Thanksgiving should be canceled. Her answer was not 'no.'

"First, Democratic senators should kill the deal on the CR. Then they need to use the Blanche confirmation to highlight that a GOP Senate will be a rubber stamp for Trump. Blanche may get confirmed. But Democrats can turn that sour lemon into sweet, tart lemonade." www.thebulwark.com/p/gop-sheep-...

GOP Sheep to the Midterm Slaughter

Todd Blanche’s confirmation will be bad for the country—and a gift to Senate Democrats.

I usually just say "Neat" when archeology (etc.) is awesome but I am not sure that's appropriate for smallpox. Either way, slam dunk scholarship and yet another nail into the coffin of pseudoarchaeology.

I look for a middle ground. The Confederacy was an illegitimate country, 19th century ISIS, built on treason and rebellion by slavery. It caused the American Civil War. I do believe in calling it the U.S. Army. The rebel forces of the Confederacy were not U.S. soldiers but seditionists in ranks.

I'm curious about what my fellow U.S. historians think about this essay. For me, it makes a compelling argument and goes hand-in-hand with recent efforts to refer to the Union Army as the "U.S. Army." #skystorians www.nytimes.com/2026/08/02/o...

Trump has falsely labled Antifa a terrorist organization. He blamed Antifa for sabotaging the Reflecting Pool. His DoJ admits that sabotage claims were all nonsense. So...The POTUS and his minions basically attempted a false flag terrorist attack for no reason. Just so we are clear.

America is now a joke country where citizens are arrested to cover up for the president’s lies on social media. We’ve replaced DEI with incompetence and protecting the egos of mediocre white men.
