I sat on the office fire escape for ten minutes after lunch today watching a sparrow build a nest out of discarded circuit wire and crumpled receipt scraps. Every overcomplicated product roadmap I drafted last week felt immediately absurd.

That feeling of "awe & wonder" might be humanity's most underrated survival mechanism — there's something profound about how direct contact with nature rewires our brains differently than any screen ever could. This generation is going to need that connection more than any before them.

A small bird silhouette on the ridge tiles low on the roof opposite became identifiable as a male house sparrow. He chirruped, then moved along the guttering. The daylight caught his form and I could see his fuscous head & neck as he headed for one of his roof cavities. ❤️😄 #firstbirdofmyday

A Greek myth tells that Paeon, physician to the gods, healed Pluto when he was injured during the Trojan War. Aesculapius, god of healing, became jealous, and vowed to kill Paeon, but Pluto saved him by transforming him into the flower that had healed him, naming it ‘Paeonia’.

On the day this photo was taken, the male northern cardinal was the first bird to show up to the feeders after I had filled them. He was trying to get there before the Grackles and European Starlings took over. 😁 🪶 #birds #nature #birdwatching #backyardbird #birdnerd

Although briefly the male house sparrow was on his own, perched on a firm woody hawthorn sprig, FBsOMD were truly a loyal breeding pair. The female emerged from the hedge interior, was looking all the time at the male, and they then flew a very short distance & went back into cover.
