Everybody talks about how nothing is affordable anymore but no one talks about how poorly made and disposable things are. Part of the affordability crisis is because we keep repurchasing things, cars, appliances, clothes etc because things don’t last.

look. is everything more expensive now? yes. but you have to look on the bright side too. now every time you open a computer, it doesn't work
They stole the internet’s knowledge and all the work that went into it and they want to sell it back to us for a fee. What a business model.
Today @dairinstitute.bsky.social is releasing the Luddite Lab Resource Hub. The hub hosts case studies, resources, and political education for unions, labor organizations, and workers who want to fight “AI” and automation at work. labor.dair-institute.org
Edge-computing architect Rohan Puranik ran circuit simulations on every pedal in Hendrix's signal chain and concludes that he was a systems engineer who iterated fast on a modular analog signal chain.

I am super excited for the Electronics Faire next week! These organizations will be tabling from 10:30 - 4:30 on Friday April 10th. Stop by to say hi and learn about the radical work they are doing with electronics. @tudigitalscholars.bsky.social
The electronics faire schedule (keynote, workshops, and more) is now live! Excellent time for a visit to Philly <3 sites.temple.edu/efaire/sched...
grading my electronics students midterm synth projects is so funny because my comments are essentially communicating “this part was cool” and “that part wouldve been cooler if…” using somewhat technical language. and then at the end i write that i took points off for not soldering lol
starting to plan the electronics faire proceedings and designing always helps me visualize the event. this year i am pulling inspiration from maintenance and repair manuals. i loooove the visual language for the brother jp-15x electronic typewriter, found on the @archive.org !!!
the deadline to apply for electronics faire is tonight! <3

been watching the dune spin off series and it's such a wonderful fever dream. its premise is a school for women on alchemy, honing psychic power, witchcraft, eugenics, and manipulation goes to extreme lengths to continue the exile of digitality across the universe lol.
really enjoying reading _The AI Con_ which just came out! "To put it bluntly, 'AI' is a marketing term. It doesn't refer to a coherent set of technologies. Instead, the phrase 'artificial intelligence' is deployed when the people building or selling a particular set of technologies + 1/2

Deep Blue is 30 years old and was capable of defeating chess grand champions. It could be housed in a single cabinet. ChatGPT spans untold data centers devouring massive amounts of electricity and it got its ass whipped by an 8 bit gaming console from the 1970s.

Lol just heard the NPR story about the DOGE guy who lost his job when he said he was surprised at how hard it was to find inefficiencies in the federal govt because he came from Silicon Valley where companies always have lots of people sitting around doing nothing
Here are some texts I got from an immigration lawyer friend of mine. Shared with permission. Some of the bleakest shit I’ve ever heard.
Business dudes have been suckered by “yo, this computer *thinks*” since the 1950s.
Yet another example of how “automation” just yields a seemingly paradoxical mix of “responsibilization” and “depersonalization”: you get to wrestle with shitty software and raw data all on your own, with minimal (if any) support from other humans, with their institutional knowledge, wisdom + care
