1914 is when the first pertussis vaccine was licensed in the US. This makes no sense to me that babies need die in this horrid way. In the 1990s babies lined my pediatric hospital wards, coughing and turning blue when they had pertussis-often lack of access was their reason for not being vaccinated

The current whooping cough outbreak in the U.S. hasn’t grabbed the media spotlight as much as measles has, but it’s important to update your vaccination if you’re going to be around babies.
