Chaotic good (usually). Curious skeptic. Unfucker of clusters. I say what everyone else is thinking. Design is political. I swear because I care. she/her. designinginward.com
putting up a lead of any kind - a win, even - on a 13:1 spending ratio is an all time legendary performance. it fundamentally means that no amount of money can buy you an election if your opponent is motivated and organized
no matter what happens tonight, Kornacki just said that Stevens severely underperformed in southwestern Michigan so at least I did my job.
I couldn’t be prouder of the movement we’ve built in mid-Michigan. Thank you, Ambassador Bridget Brink and Matt Maasdam, for your years of public service and all your hard work on the campaign trail. While tonight we celebrate, there’s still much more work ahead.
as someone who has lived in Grand Rapids for pretty much my whole life, it's absolutely bonkers to watch commentators refer to this city as a progressive hot bed.
despite having many different types of actual toys, Birdie's favorite things are 1) hair ties and 2) wine corks and 3) my socks.
Someone once told me that it's "classist" to advocate for people to have indoor cats because you need to buy them lots of expensive toys. Marcel has been playing with the discarded stem of a fresh green bean for 20 minutes. 🤷♀️
"Their opponents focused on positioning and arguing for who is the most electable... But El-Sayed and Lawrence focused on what would actually energize the voters determining their fate." prospect.org/2026/08/04/m...
The Michigan Revolution Is About Old-Fashioned Politics - The American Prospect
Progressives like Abdul El-Sayed and Will Lawrence are running solid races. Moderates have fallen back on old arguments. Signs point to the progressives winning.

Very nervous about tomorrow’s blog on Patreon so have some out of context quotes from it as a treat 💜
it's her first time watching Jurassic Park. I think she likes it even more than Jaws.
I just jumped the ship from Miro, who I have been a customer of since it was Realtime Boards, to Mural, because Miro's AI features were actively interfering with my work and there is no option to turn them off unless you're on an enterprise plan.
I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them
Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary
In light of Hank Green disappointing us all, a thread of science communicators that do not brainlessly parrot LLMs as reference. Miniminuteman. A Tiktok import who now posts long form archeological/pseudoarcheology-debunking vids to YouTube. They're fantastic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFA4...

If whoever occupies that Longaberger basket building doesn't take advantage of the event opportunities around the release of the Wicker movie, they do not deserve the lease.
agreed. I can think of few bands that have FIVE almost perfect, continually evolving albums, which New Order absolutely has. Power Corruption & Lies Lowlife Brotherhood Technique Music Complete
Post your hottest music take. Mine is New Order is better than Joy Division.
I am rewatching "Hunt for Red October" (as part of my 'rewatch all Sam Neill stuff' project), and I would love to hear from some Russian speakers how authentic the actors accents are when they are actually speaking Russian, because Sean Connery still sounds incredibly Scottish to me, lol.
a reminder that this MI Senate primary has lasted 16 months and that is too fucking long (regardless of what I think about any of the candidates).
🧵on the AAUP endorsement of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate in the Michigan Democratic primary, the first-ever electoral endorsement in the organization's 110-year history. 1
as a human I find churu (the cat treat) disgusting, but it is an absolute godsend if you have to give a cat medication.
a reminder that it is remarkably easy to live your life in a way that doesn't generate this type of internal conflict.
It’s ok to feel torn when someone dies whose art meant a lot to you but who was accused of predatory behaviour during their lifetime. I have those feels about Bowie. It’s collaborationist to try to shut up people who don’t have your nostalgic view of the deceased and care more about the behaviours.
Birdie is sleeping on the footstool (upon which my feet are resting) and I accidentally bumped her with my foot, and the only reaction she had was to reach out a paw to grab the offending foot and pull it closer to her and that is why I consider her the world's biggest sweetheart
Gotta shut down the factory that makes this kinda guy
please be kind to any Michiganders you know, we are not used to our state getting this much national attention, lol.
