There's really no good argument against it, especially if Dems take the Senate. A distraction? Futile? As opposed to what, passing bills that you can't get past a veto anyway? Oversight? You get more attention and stronger legal tools with impeachment. Just do the right thing, it's good politics!

The claim being made is that a trans kid playing sports is unsafe. If a doctor says a kid isn't a danger to themselves or others, sorry. It's non-responsive to the agenda they're trying to advance (trans people aren't their chosen gender and THAT is dangerous).

It never stops hitting me the way that, in mainstream circles, naming Republican violence as such is treated as a present danger of political violence, while the actual violence being acted in our streets by Republicans is treated as something we need to convince them intellectually not to do.

I've found that this attitude goes hand in hand with a failure to realize that every single issue that is now labelled "radical trans activism" was a compromise trans people won with those in power that power is now reneging on.

One of the more insidious phrasings I've seen with the Dems/trans rights discourse lately is the idea that trans people are being greedy and demanding a "maximalist" approach to trans rights. No, you cannot call the state of rights American trans people had as recently as 2023 "maximalist," sorry.

One of the drivers I think is that there's a weird tendency to look at political issues as problems you solve by yelling at voters instead of addressing to the candidate or politician.

Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Dario Amodei calling for AI development to slow down—but not, you know, just doing that at the companies they control—while Donald Trump is president smells like an attempt at regulatory capture.
