A bsky block goes a long way, but it's a "hammer" and it only works on the one "nail." I really like the option of muting a word or phrase for a week or month to avoid popular discourse that I have no interest in. Highly recommend! This post brought to you by news of English royalty moving home

I sure do love @nodered.org With a few API calls and function nodes, I'm syncing a free-tier scheduler with a @home-assistant.io calendar... something that would require the average person to pay for two different subscriptions starting at over $200 a year. Now I can automate around client visits!
My 10-year-old niece said, "You're chill" and I'll take that to my grave
I think I've figured out why replying "Stop" to political texts doesn't do anything. They reply, "You will no longer receive messages from this number" WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS, "You will no longer receive messages TO this number." So they just change the number they text from and keep sending.

I've been wanting to make one of these for a while now due to now yearly wildfire smoke. In a little over an hour and running on the lowest fan setting, the indoor air quality has greatly improved. I bought cheap filters. You don't need to worry about MERV ratings like the graphic suggests.
Canadian wildfire smoke is likely to reach Metro Detroit late Wednesday, adding to health risks for vulnerable residents already dealing with high temperatures. Read more about what to expect and how to stay safe: https://planetdetroit.org/2026/07/ontario-wildfire-smoke-detroit-heat-wave/

You've heard a lot about the Moroun-owned Ambassador Bridge in Detroit, and the efforts to block the opening of the new bridge to Canada. Here's what's going on with another Moroun-owned company ... It decided that the best place to plunk a concrete plant right in a residential neighborhood.
Left in the Dust: How a Billionaire-Owned Concrete Plant Took Over a Detroit Community
After a Moroun-owned company erected a concrete plant in a quiet neighborhood with the aid of the city, residents began battling clouds of dust and other problems. They say local and state officials h...

Oh wow, someone who I’ve never heard of said something awful on a website I left because I was sick of seeing people say so many awful things? Thank you for sharing it with everyone here! What a useful contribution to the discourse you’ve made.

Hasn’t the weather been lovely recently? You should get outside! Volunteer to help whip a greenhouse into shape. Take a Black history-themed walking tour of downtown. Or, fix your wheels at a bike pop-up shop so you can ride all summer long. Here’s how to *not* spend your summer in the house.

Sad to learn that the incomparable Bobby Murray has passed away. He was probably best known as Etta James' guitar player of 20 years, but the local Detroit music scene knows him as one of the kindest people on the planet. I'll miss seeing his smiling face around town, but I'll always remember.
The most sane response to EV discourse today:
People be talking about EVs today and that's like my whole thing so here's what I've identified as The Problem: The idea of being inconvenienced AT ALL overrides the average person's ability to consider whether a small inconvenience in one context might be outweighed by upsides in other contexts.
Don't get it twisted, "Bobby Romeo" is about the furthest thing from Detroit rock. I used to run into him + posse at 5th Avenue in royal oak watching real Detroit musicians. He was always a pompous pos
A reminder that Kid Rock was born Robert James Ritchie, to a family that owned multiple car dealerships in Michigan. The 5,600 sq ft colonial mansion on 6 acres where he grew up had stables, apple orchard, tennis court & a 5 car garage. He cosplays "Trailer Park", but is literally 'Ritchie Rich'.
Every time a storm blows in, we have to worry about power being cut off. Michigan has one of the worst rankings for utility reliability in the US. Accountability legislation went nowhere. But $$$ did go to our politicians. Let's get DTE and Consumers out of MI politics. MopUpMichigan.org
I took some classes this past semester after a 6 or 7 year hiatus. It's a little nutty how pervasive ai use has become with both professors and students (each side having its own notable amount of resistance). This post really put into words a feeling I hadn't been able to
One thing that sucks about AI is how it has degraded trust between students and professors.
It's a bit funny (derogatory) that Trump can't stay awake and the result is "Joe Biden" is currently trending #1 on bsky because of the hypocrisy.
