Really just cannot believe we've reached a point where someone argues with a straight face that "solidarity" means "any art done by anyone in this population - regardless of their background or the subject matter or anything else - is actively promoting genocide."

“Every day is a good day to leave the old stuff behind and look forward with confidence” New interview with the legendary and gracious Gigi Masin. We chatted about defining (and avoiding traps in) ambient and jazz, the long web of sampling, and more.

Tsunami’s last (and greatest?) album, an alt-rock masterpiece from a band that delivered three of them. Unsparing lyrics, horns and accordions, dissonance and pop. A lot packed in here! Now’s a great opportunity for more great Jenny Toomey albums to get their due - Grenadine reissues?

High-level politicians of Germany's far-right, neo-Nazi adjacent AfD are blaming Moroccan immigrants to Spain's Ceuta last week on Israel. Progressives should ask whether they want to acquiesce to an ultimately far-right framing of migrants as "invaders," just because it lets them blame Israel.

from Tomasz Froelich: "The sudden storming of Ceuta by 50,000 people is no coincidence, but a hybrid attack serving Moroccan, American, and Israeli interests: Pedro Sánchez has sided with the Palestinians and drawn closer to Algeria. This displeases Washington, Tel Aviv, and Rabat.

At the same time, Sánchez has facilitated such an attack through his disastrous migration policy. He has recklessly promoted boundless mass migration without regard for the security of the European peoples and handed out residence permits or even citizenships to undocumented migrants on a million-fold scale in the shortest possible time. Against him, one can unhesitatingly wield the migration weapon, without him being able to defend himself against it.

The chaos in Ceuta thus has both foreign and domestic political causes."

The Sound - best known now as the post-punk band that should have been bigger. It’s hard to think of an album that balances darkness as well as clawing out of despair - kindred spirit to Echo and the Bunnymen’s Heaven Up Here.

Desperate people mistakenly thought they have a chance to get to Europe. Dozens died. Unless you have solid evidence, blaming the Israeli government sounds very much like elders of zion stuff

Reiterating that Musk's literal voter bribery last time was an unambiguous go-directly-to-jail felony, for which people have been successfully prosecuted over vastly smaller amounts. It wasn't just pouring money into a PAC, whatever one thinks of that. It was a black-letter plain-as-day crime.

Yes, Elon Musk’s Vote-Buying Is Against the Law

People have gone to prison for comparable schemes.

Musk got away with his $1 million vote-buying scheme in 2024. Why wouldn't he try something similar this November?

You *really* don't need to tell everyone why it's cool that you feel the need to publicly mourn the death of a notorious right-wing racist because you can't reconcile having been an edgelord in the 90s. You can just say nothing, you know.
