A few shots from last night's book launch of The Silenced, where I asked @dianawallachauthor.bsky.social alllllllllllll the questions about the book in front of a packed house at Children's Book World in Haverford, PA. Fun night! #booksky

This might be my favorite photo from last night. @dianawallachauthor.bsky.social sent me a few shots of us cracking up during the book discussion, but this one is memorable because it was right after we finished up. I'm so jealous of Diana's height--I always wanted to be that tall & queenly!
Bookmail! Today for Latinx Heritage Month I'm highlighting The Silenced, a YA horror novel from my good friend @dianawallachauthor.bsky.social Out now from Delacorte Press!! Can't wait to read this!
Woot! On Oct 20 I get to hang out with some of my favorite people (@dianawallachauthor.bsky.social @v-e-tirado.com @adamcesare.bsky.social) at one of my fave coffee shops, at an event hosted by one of my favorite bookshops (@maveybooks.bsky.social). Reserve your spot & creep on in for horror talk!
I did it. Happy Book Birthday to my 9th novel THE SILENCED. THE SILENCED imagines what would happen if a girl explores an abandoned reform school & comes home haunted by the ghost of a teen who didn’t survive her stay at The Farm. It’s a horror novel tackling real world issues-Welcome to The Farm!
I’m seeing reports that they have settled at $3,000 per work, and if so, I need to see the settlement amount

“Parents only accounted for 16% of book bans…” As a public school parent, I already knew this. This not about “protecting children.” It’s about controlling what info kids have access to & trying to create a generation that is less intelligent & empathetic. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...
Report shows it’s largely officials and orgs demanding book bans - not parents
Only 16 percent of book challenges came from parents themselves

A robin built her nest on my front porch. It’s right outside my office window. Now every time I look up from my computer, I get to watch her build her little family. This your timeline cleanse.
I am so overwhelmed by the political state of this country that a part of my brain is shutting down. If you don’t see me posting political hot takes here, it’s not bc I don’t care. I call & email my reps! I protest! I’m just at a loss on what to say.
Also I hope we're all on this same page EVERYONE needs to be brought out of that El Salvadorian hell hole they were ALL wrongfully deported. I mean it's good to focus on 'And this guy was here legally and not ever a gang member AND they're Venezuelan' but NO ONE should've been sent there

I have an epilogue in my upcoming YA Horror THE SILENCED & all of my other books bc as a reader I love to know how it works out in the end. I also love when movies end w/snapshots like “3 yrs later Jane became the president of a major tech company & finally divorced Brad….” Do you like epilogues?
If you have t read Cina’s work, now is the time. I’m so excited for her new release!

The Paper Trail podcast is back for season 2! And we're kicking things off with a bang with the incredible @laurataylornamey.bsky.social as we lament the current state of the country, discuss the myriad routes to film & television adaptations & remind ourselves that comparison is the thief of joy.
Bookish friends- I have an old TT post (more than a year) about author JD Barker getting lots of views now. Does anyone know why? I googled him & didn’t see any recent news. It’s my post about Barker asking reviewers to pose w/out clothes to promote his book. Did he do something else recently?
As a writer, I try not to talk in absolutes. Words have meaning. There are always exceptions… Except for this— It is NEVER ok to sleep w/ur babysitter. Ever. There is always a power imbalance-especially if ur a millionaire, 40yrs her senior, & she’s homeless. www.usatoday.com/story/entert...

Today I turned in copy edits for THE SILENCED (Girl Interrupted meets Poltergeist, Sept. ‘25, Delacorte)!!! I immediately danced to Janet Jackson. In my mind, I can still do the original choreography to “If.” Writers—what is your celebration ritual when you finish a book or draft?
I haven’t been posting here as much bc I’m still figuring this app out. I’ve learned that cross-posts from threads don’t often work here bc threads rewards controversy. Authors- are you posting different content here than on the other apps?
While updating my website w/the cover of THE SILENCED (Girl Interrupted meets Poltergeist), I added a hyperlink to “add it” on Goodreads. I notice THE SILENCED has a review! This book doesn’t come out until September! Someone read my book!! AHHHHHHH!!! Authors, do you read your reviews?
My copy editor’s name is Jamie Jo Johnson. That name! It has me imagining a chapter book where a plucky fourth grader named Jamie Jo Johnson rules the playground and hijinks ensue. There’s also probably a cat…
