I know everywhere else is a mess, but it's been a very mild summer here, and very few tornado warnings compared to the last, like, 15. I would love for this to be a trend. Even tho I know it's not 😆 Gonna enjoy it while it lasts

Was talking to spouse last night about how idea of having a relatively stable, decent-paying job was actually a fairly low bar for us to attain, growing up. Now you get one of those and you feel wildly lucky, like you've won the Life Lottery.

I manage an agency for our paid advertising and saaame. We have extremely detailed persona docs w/ strict guardrails for avoiding LLM slop, & their drafts are still filled with negative parallelism + goofy analogies that don’t make sense. I’m at the point where I just handle it to avoid the reworks.

I am one of those people who feels that the past was mostly terrible and we're just bad at remembering it as such.

Medical advances. All of them. I was told in 2006 when I went into a t1 diabetic coma that if I'd showed up to ER in state I was in 20 years before, I'd be dead. We got a COVID vaccine in a YEAR. Spouse has a friend w/a major brain aneurysm who SURVIVED. And no one smokes inside anymore!!!!!!!!!

I was reading that they led with writing/design because it was easiest to demo to investors. The real modern challenge isn't cheap words or design tho (we had that). It's managing large caches of information. And it's still bad at that (fun fact: the larger a data set, the more it makes things up).

I haven't been able to get this out of my head, so - I'm calling it. A few decades of rapid technical progress here, and plastic garbage can become the new coal or oil... And landfills become the new coal mines or oil wells. BRING IT ON. (Also: sci-fi writers, grab this maybe-future quick!)

Have publishers/agents actually added "no LLMs" rules? Cause I know several authors who openly discussed using it at length and are still publishing books. Curious if this has become contractual issue yet or is just vibes (from legal standpoint, it must be 80% human written to be copyrighted)
