Anyways, I don't think people are talking enough about Anne Hathaway & Ewan MacGregor being married with children and fighting dinosaurs. I -will- be watching The End of Oak Street tomorrow night. Fun-haters please exit the post in an orderly queue.

In Word, Microsoft is constantly screaming at me to upgrade. In Gmail, Google is constantly screaming at me to add Gemini to my inbox for the bargain price of... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. No. I'll write books and letters longhand before I do either of these things.

OK, so I don't recommend you watch it but that wild bullshit reel Colon Musk had AI create for him? That's the glimpse inside the mind of a supervillain right there. A villain who's thirty seconds from revealing his hidden volcano base & gonna destroy the world by stealing all the horses, somehow?

For $15, I got a used DVD player. It was so liberating to watch a movie with no interruptions. No ads! Nobody trying to sell me dubious meds with more side effects than benefits. I can get DVDs at the library anytime I want! How did anyone ever convince me paid subscriptions WITH ADs were okay?!

A few notes about my viral DVD player post: 1)you don't need to tell me how much you love streaming. If you love it, especially all the ads and fees, have fun! Pay 400 a month if it makes you happy. Subscribe to everything! 2)you don't need to tell me I'm old. Get a hobby, maybe.

Re-introduction (since I've been buried in writing cave!) I'm Cathy Yardley, Viet-Irish-American rom com writer, Gen X neurodivergent rogue, Noonaracha Staytiny, menopausal bogwitch, foodie in the boonies. LFG! (Also, this is my brand new author photo... what do you think?)

New author photo for Cathy Yardley.

Sometimes when I'm feeling really overwhelmed I imagine running away from home and then i realize that because I'm an adult, that's just called "moving" and PRESTO! All the magic is gone. 😩

I love when a post goes viral and people show up to lecture me on unrelated topics. Yes, I know about Kanopy. The post is about enjoying DVDs again, please see yourselves out.

Got cauliflower fritters at Costco & was underwhelmed when I had them first. Didn't work with sour cream. Weird since they' re positioned as latke-adjacent. I'm not an applesauce latke person, so that was out. People. The lemony-garlicky tzatziki I made yesterday? Chef's kiss. We have a winner.

I found a moving sale on Craigslist. Listing included a small, Samsung DVD player that fits on the mantel below my TV. (We never use the gas fireplace.) I also got a $15 TV to use as a monitor & $20 queen air mattress so I have a place to sleep when I have guests. Shopping this way is fun for me.

While I'm going viral for preferring tangible media, please preorder The Hocus Pocus Handbook and repost about it. If you're new to my feed, I have written a lot of books! (I go viral when I post about low-tech preferences, it seems. The washing machine one popped off & now DVDs are going too.)

Soon I'll have a desktop workstation for the first time in... *checks notes, has none* I dunno how long. Found a fab deal on a mini-puter & got a little TV to be my monitor for $15. Already have a keyboard & mouse. Thrifted an HDMI cable for $3 (also got a charging cable & a mug). I'm excited!

This curry is so good. Firm tofu, carrots, potatoes, yellow Thai curry paste, sweet Basil, coconut milk, collard greens, roasted radishes and onions, served on chewy brown rice with a drizzle of creamy tzatziki. The gravy features roasted eggplant and a fugly tomato.
