Thinking about the moms who never imagined their tiny little boys could grow up to be monsters. Praying they love their sons enough to demand accountability. This is about Cornell, but it’s also about America.
‘The Cornell 7’ moniker functions as a way to do the work of ‘not all men.’ There’s a level of distance and plausible deniability in providing a place and a number. But, if we’re honest, it’s a judicial system that values power over the bodies and potential of women and girls.

Nikole Hannah-Jones’s story has been a compelling one to follow, and as a Black parent and an educator, I am simultaneously moved and disappointed. Hannah-Jones writes about race and power, but she devotes much of her article to individual shortcomings to systemic issues.

I'm a fan of everything Jason Reynolds has written, but this book holds a special place in my heart as we saw a musical adaptation of it that was phenomenal. I'm so glad more students will get the chance to read it!

Today’s my first day of school as an assistant principal. My little sister starts her first official school year as a teacher. Our mom said we’ve gotta go to school 😭
Today I facilitated professional development for 7th grade English teachers and I started with a round of applause because people who teach middle school deserve all the good things 😅🤣

Started this week with strong framing, samples, and sentence starters. I am looking forward to watching this develop!

Sometimes I come across passages written by she who shall not be named, and I’m shocked by the chasm between her words and her actions. HP was a lighthouse; I wonder if Joanne actually read it. "We're all human, aren't we? Every human life is worth the same, is worth saving."
Okay—I deleted the post asking for advice! I collected some REALLY GOOD feedback & I’ll be adjusting. Ya girl definitely bit off more than she could chew asking for advice 😅 I have to trust myself, my expertise, my experience as a teacher, my instincts, and my heart for the rest.
Anyone finished Ride or Die?! 2 scenes that are the most perfect representations of girlhood & womanhood in modern television history: 1. At a hostel, a group of young women play into stereotypes in order to solve a problem. It was fun & beautiful.

Today I finished The Five Star Weekend and started Ride or Die and it’s so clear that we need more media centered around outrageously attractive and extremely charismatic middle-aged women.
