Good morning, Bluesky. Only 4k words into what will be my 28th novel and I am struck anew by the absurdity of what I do for a living, how basically I’m still just a little kid throwing tea parties for my stuffed animals. “Would you like some more tea, Doodlebug?”

Sunrise over an empty marina, Domino Sugar plant visible in the background.

So my friend of almost 40 years claimed that I once told him I caught a congressman staring so blatantly at my chest that I literally said: “My eyes are up here.” The congressman he named has, um, quite the reputation, but this never happened. He then said, “Well, some politician hit on you.” And I was like, “Well, yeah, I covered the State House.” Although, really, the most obnoxious person on the beat was a lobbyist. Ugh, so slimy.

the average rental for a private plane is $30,000 coast to coast; would guess that this isn't quite so expensive. Great Danes are truly massive & would guess that this handsome fellow was sedated for the flight.

Fitness model Pietra Luccas bought out an entire row of plane seats in order for her pony to have the luxury of stretching out during a long commercial airline flight 😆😆😆❤️🐾🐾

Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

Neiman Marcus closed its downtown Dallas flagship on Wednesday. The store played a notable role in the history of desegregation in Dallas. Previously, Black shoppers across the US could enter department stores, but they weren't allowed to try on clothes without adhering to certain conditions. 🧵
